Unless my parents sell the Sun God Sr compound I’ll be sticking around.

The state has undoubtedly gotten worse but I still enjoy living here.

Yeah, that's what I figured you were referring to. No one wants to get stuck in that shitshow on 60 on the weekends.

just hit Lumsden/Causeway...It's way better than 60

Sure, if you don't need any of the retail off 60. Look, if Brandon works for you that's great. But it's hardly the best the area has to offer.

To each their own, but I'm giving the OP an idea of what's there so he can make up his own mind vs making a blanket suggestion. Personally, I see very little value in suburban living if I'm still dealing with a lot of gridlock.

With that said, my first born will be here in August and I want him to experience a good life and not have to live in such a miserable place, anyone else make a move out of Louisiana lately? We’re just kind of nervous about uprooting and moving away from all of family looking for new jobs etc, but still excited about a new journey!

And in 3-5 years when you’re well established and look back on it all, you will consider it the best move you ever made and wonder why it took you so long to pull the trigger.

I've visited Tampa and other cities in Florida for work. Louisiana's shittiness aside, I find Florida residents unpleasant to be around. Not my type of people I guess. Florida attracts a mashup of people from all over the country, a lot of yankees, and a lot of wingnuts.

Tampa is very nice. GTFO of La. Great to visit, flights are cheap. Left after LSU and while always enjoy coming back, always ready to leave again.

I’m an instrument tech. I just hop on indeed and also search the refinery/plant websites of somewhere I would want to live.

Moved to Tampa a few years ago and it’s been fantastic. Much more money to be made and the roads are so much better. Major airport, sports teams, theaters, beaches, etc. this city has a lot to offer. I will say that the housing market is insane. As in any decent house has multiple full ask offers within 48 hours. This includes Tampa, Brandon, Fishhawk, new Tampa, etc. even the rental market is a bit nuts.

Surprised to see so many OT’ers who also live in Tampa area. That should tell you something

I certainly understand your hesitancy. I hated to leave Louisiana as well, but the move (to Texas) really turned out to be the best move I've ever made. I love Texas.

My suggestion? Pull the trigger on this move, and don't look back. We must be brave enough to realize when a state is in steep decline, and take the necessary step to give our children a chance at a better life somewhere else. Florida is a Republican led state. You know business friendly. You should do well there.

Good luck.

Wow didn’t think this thread would get this much attention! Lol thanks for posting input guys, just affirms for me. I’m saving my money like a freaking tight wad now, I can’t wait to leave lol! I’ve been doing a lot of self employment and doing my own work so leaving and finding work won’t be a problem, I can do a lot. I have plenty of experience in industry work, construction side, down to mowing grass, so I’m not worried about a job. I think we will be moving a bit north of Tampa I actually have cousins there for people asking why Tampa and they have told me how great it is for them and the kids. I’m also a beach person I love a nice beach with some nice blue water and a fishing pole. Not much of a hunter, so that’s not a big deal. And I can’t wait to watch LSU vs Florida every other year in Gainesville and LSU Fl St at campin world in. 2 years I will be at every game when LSU is in Florida! I’m so excited to GTFOH.

I don't know much about Tampa, but definitely moving out of LA has ended up a solid move.

LA is a total shitehole and getting worse.
Bottom in rankings for economy, education and quality of life. Tops in poverty, crime, taxes and illiteracy though.
