We had learned earlier this year that he has become one of the largest owners of farmland in this country. Now, thanks to this divorce, we are finding out that his interests in our food supply run even deeper.

quote:

The disclosure was required because Gates and Cascade hold a stake of greater than 10% in Deere, Gates said in a securities filing, according to the Journal.

After the transfer to Melinda Gates, the Bill Gates-Cascade stake in Deere dropped to 9.3%, the news outlet reported.

This makes sense now. Typical Gates crap.

"John Deere is now in hot water with the ‘Right to Repair’ movement for making farmers sign EULAs in order to use their farm equipment"

Fixed it for them. This is good imo, the dude has always been the "good guy". He's definitely not, so I welcome the drama.

I have a Kubota. Much better than John Deere in the smaller tractors. John Deere has the large tractor market locked up. Ride through the Delta and see what the large planters are driving.

Over 10% of a large corporation is not a small stake.

I agree that this is interesting. Sure, wealthy people typically have diverse portfolios but normally their large investments stick to their bread and butter (tech, obviously, in Gates' case). John Deere and farmland is basically the opposite of Microsoft. It could be 100 percent harmless but as people have diligently pointed out throughout time, if you control food you control people. It's even more relevant now that 99 percent of people are reliant on a vague food source somewhere that is delivered to us somehow. If the food from the majority of farmland along with access to machines to farm what land we did have was suddenly denied because of something you did or believed what would you do? Most people would rabble rabble and then consent to whatever they demand.

Yes, he owns a shite ton of land in North Louisiana. Farmland is invaluable in his 'eyes'.
