Abners was founded in Oxford by former Ole Miss center Abner White. It used to be pretty good but he took advantage of a still desolate and isolated Oxford at the time with food that probably seemed better than it was because of the lack of options. It’s still in Oxford and I think a couple of places in the Memphis area but that’s about it.

there's an Abners in Brandon. It's the best "fast food" chicken and does a good business. I don't know how they screwed up the Starkville location?

Honestly it might have been due to an anti OM sentiment. The place was founded on a business model of being the holy grail of OM football history. The original places in Oxford have photos from every significant moment in OM history all over the walls and signed memorabilia. Some state fans are aware of this and probably wanted nothing to do with the place.
That is my theory at least

Based on the taste of the food, Popeyes should be #1. However I’d put Canes and Chick fil A in front of Popeyes because their employees rarely look at me like they want to stab me in the neck with a chicken bone.

The best chicken tender chain is Abners. It’s way better than Raising Canes or Zaxbys imo but only has 4-5 locations all in MS
