Lorne needs to hire Tim Dillon as head writer. Problem solved.

This could not be more wrong.

Some of the best comedy is political satire.

I guess you missed the rest of the post

It is to skewer all comers. Not just one side in a never ending screech.

Must not have not seen SNL in their golden age.

please learn the difference between apolitical and politically neutral

Thanks

Jon Stewart is/was politically neutral

Anthony Jeselnik is apolitical. Mitch Hedberg was apolitical.

It's been good twice.

The Aykroyd/Radner/Chase/Murphy Era

The Carvey/Myers/Farley era.

I understand it well. I practice it daily in my profession. They can (and should) make political satire. However, it should be clear that they are not representing one political party. They fail miserably to do that. If you want to call that politically neutral (Jon Stewart is not even remotely politically neutral) then I do not care.

Then you’re dumb or a brainwashed lunatic who views this as church. Go look at Norm’s Update and get back to me if these jokes are nearly as bit as clever his were. Any joke as good as this?

I certainly never said I preferred it to the old Weekend Updates. Norm was actually my favorite.
I just said what it is now is fine, to me. Its most certainly not as good as it has been in other seasons, but there is still some good humor in there.

Agreed. Dennis Miller, George Carlin, PJ O’rouke, Bill Mahr, etc. It just depends on your perspective.
Cerebral attacks in policy are pretty damn funny. Trouble is most comedians aren’t smart enough to attack policy intellectually so they revert to personal attacks. Not a lot of humor in that IMO.

apparently they also don’t cater to people that enjoy comedy

I've only watched a few episodes over the last decade or so for this reason

My guess is that Saturday night live never really catered to the political beliefs of the average OTer. It was just funny, so nobody really cared. For the record, most people here don't watch unfunny comedy but does fall in line with their political beliefs, either

This.

All about ratings. If the Ratings aren’t there the show won’t be either.

We just got old.

I don’t get 20,000 people at an EDM show either.

No, it doesn't. But it's still awful.

My theory is SNL always was about as good as it is now

Admittedly, I haven’t watched in years but I remember the formula.

They have say 10 skits.
1 is comedy gold
1 is pretty funny
2 are mildly amusing
6 are terrible

When we watch the highlight episodes where they show the best skits of the time period we think SNL used to be better.

I could only imagine him in the writers room with both Aidy Bryant and Bowen Yang, and they could say nothing to him when he’d make fat jokes and gay jokes at their expense since he’s both as well but is actually funny.

Jon Stewart is not politically neutral nor would he claim to be such. He was just a talented and clever mother fricker and really good at his job. His acolytes on the other hand fricking suck and are a bunch of hacks.

He had a great spiel about SNL about a month ago on his show: LINK. He lambasted Bowen about 15 mins in.
