And where do you go for your car research?

Have they ever been known for reliability?

Being serious. I've always thought they were great on safety, bad on reliability.

They are extraordinarily safe.

But they will be in the shop roughly 45% of the time you own them.

They also depreciate significantly.

But might be worth owning while under warranty. They have beautiful interiors.

We had a 2015 Volvo XC60 that was in the shop (this is not an exaggeration) 10x more than any other car I’ve owned.

Before the 90s, Volvo built simple but reliable cars. Some time in the 90s they started trying to compete with other European luxury imports, at least in the American market. They moved from manual transmissions, cloth seats and crank up windows to complicated electronics. Their quality and reliability plummeted.

I'm on my second XC90 in a row and not a single visit

Yes. We lease the XC90 and XC60. We just traded the lease on our previous XC90 for the newer model. What do you want to know?

Leasing you should be fine but I would be hesitant to purchase long term because they are in the shop a lot

Since 2010 Volvo is owned by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., Ltd (ZGH) (or “Geely”). Geely is 100% privately-held by a Chinese citizen.

BTW Geely also owns ~10 of Daimler AG, parent company of MB.

Aesthetically nice, not as dependable as many other automobile choices.

All gas Volvos have the same basic 4 cylinder engine. They turbo or supercharge the hell out of them on the larger models to get the requisite HP.

I’m team Toyota or Honda until further notice for my personal automotive purchases.

They’re boxy, but they’re safe.

I've owned two.
2018 sedan and a 2012 SUV XC60 Polstar.
Sold the sedan to buy a pickup.
Still have the XC60 and it's running great.
Never had an issue with it or the sedan.

A friend of mine was telling me last night what the blue book on his was. It depreciated significantly more than my truck. I was surprised

Got one for my daughter in highschool with like 80k miles on it. She wrecked it once and I had to wreck it again 5 years later to kill it. Not saying it's the norm, but that thing refused to die

My in laws kept their Volvos until they had 300,000 miles on them. Volvo sends you a badge for the car when this happens. There was a lot of time in the shop to hit that number.

Have a long reputation for safety as well as maintenance issues. Probably good for a young driver + AAA just in case.
