Chase - opted out as the clear #1 WR. Stock stayed the same. Was the #1 WR.

Shelvin - came back as a Sr to improve draft stock. Opted out. Probably hurt his draft stock.

Vincent - same as Shelvin.

Stevens - came back as Sr to improve draft stock. Currently waiting outside Bo Pelini’s home with a lead pipe. Criminally misused.

Cox - came to LSU instead of going peo. Probably hurt his draft stock but maybe not.

Terrace Marshall - didn’t opt out. Needed to show he was a first rounder. Played like it for 7 games and bailed. Ended up exactly were he started.

Races McMath- Came back, no changes. Wasn’t really a threat to opt out.

So what did we learn from all this?

If you have something to prove on the field you got to prove it on the field. You definitely can hurt your stock if you come back and stink.

I actually Feel terrible for Steven. He isn’t a bad player. He essentially a OLB, and Bo bad him playing centerfield way too often.

Stevens is the type of dude who will play 10 years in the NFL, regardless if he plays OLB or SS, he’ll make a roster as a special teams player.

It’s really impossible to know what these players actual stock was at any point prior to being drafted so we can sort of write our own history on most of these

Pelini should be forced to give half of what he made last year to Cox & Stevens

It’s almost like people who needed to show things and cement their stock, yet opted out instead, dropped.

Again, not just an LSU problem, there were other opt outs that dropped like a brick too. Jamie Newman from WF/UGA being one.

It’s not a good look when you opted out with something left to prove and everyone else played.

So it seems opting out helped players. That must piss of the right wing fan base. They swore it would hurt them.

Had Vincent played last season under Pelini id be willing to bet he doesn't get drafted. Unfortunately Stevens probably hurt his stock by playing under Pelini. Marshall needed to play to prove he was healthy. He was on a tear and should've kept playing. It probably wouldn't have made a huge difference but he may have been able to sneak into the first round.

Shelvin & Vincent had poor combines. That hurt more than tape

Maybe Jacoby could have gone a few rounds higher if he hadn't had such a lackluster 2020, but he was probably never going to be a first rounder like, say, his closest recent comp Isaiah Simmons, who turned in a 4.39 laser-time at the combine and has crazy length, coverage radius, and makeup ability.

IDK -- you're not wrong, just maybe overstating the case a little bit.

I know this is about LSU players, but Dylan Moses is the poster child for this. If he wasn't 100%, it could only hurt and it did.

quote:

Following Moses' announcement of his intentions to play for Alabama in 2020, head coach Nick Saban expressed that he believed it was in Moses' best interest to return in order to create value for himself.

Playing last year, especially on defense, was not a good idea. That film hurt.

Playing could not help Chase. It may have just given teams the excuse to pick the AL players before him.

Marshall wanted to prove his durability. Guess who had post season surgery. Playing did not help and he might have fallen further if you didn't have a Brady out there who was intimately familiar with him.

Cox, that D.

What Shelvin needed to do was demonstrate that he could control his weight. Bet if he had played he wouldn't have been anywhere close to 350. He is the prototypical boom or bust and went where a guy like that should go. But if he showed up over overweight...

Stevens, that D

McMath, I doubt playing helped

Vincent, if they didn't like 2019 film, what do you think would have happened in 2020. I doubt he was the key to all the problems.

I believe this outcome is specific to Covid and that defense and not some universal principle for the future.

Y'all need to take off the LSU glasses with Stevens.

He's terrible. He was easily the worst tackler on the team last year. Also atrocious in coverage.

All this "make him a LB" talk is stupid because he can not tackle.

He'll be out of the league in 3 years tops.

Marshall might have played his way into high second round. But I don't think he was ever going in the 1st.
