They got him an elite and familiar pass catcher and spent 3 picks on offensive line (a 2nd, a 4th, and a 6th). Is that enough to keep him off his back this year?

What are the true odds a 6th round pick even makes the roster? Basically that’s one and a half offensive linemen.

They picked up Reiff in the off season too. I would have liked to see them get a lineman sooner in the draft. Pairing Higgins and Chase is nice. The tight end situation could be better. Pookah adds an interesting dynamic if he's ready for the stage.

He might get hit a little less than last year but not by much

Not enough top end O linemen. ESPN said the second round OL they picked will likely struggle early. He needs help NOW

They have gotten marginally better this offseason. But are still likely to be picking pretty early in next years draft. Hopefully they will snag an elite off tackle and make some serious noise in 2022.

Yeah. They pretty much made him GM and judging from their recent history that may not be a bad idea.

Not sure.

But I do know that Joe and Chase won’t connect for very many TDs if the Bengals can’t keep Joe from getting hit constantly

I do find the Jackson Carman pick interesting. Who knows, he might actually be a great guard? He's never played guard in his life; he might find it to be easy compared to Left Tackle taking on speed rushers. According to Bengals site, Willie Anderson and Andrew Whitworth have worked with him, and Willie gave his recommendation on the pick.

Who knows if Whitworth gave his recommendation...he's not part of the Bengals organization. I looked him up and see he's still playing for the Rams. Wow.

I think the offense speeds up and those long drops end. Nice weapons on offense with the best receiver in a while going to them. The OL probably continue to improve and the draft picks are decent, especially Jackson Carman. I look forward to watching them get to 7-8 wins this year.

Imho they should have used 1st round on penei sewell and 2nd round on best wr on board (and there were some damned good ones, including Terrace Marshall)

They would have been fools to pass up as close to a can't miss wr prospect as possible with the added benefit of 2-3 years chemistry with another can't miss qb prospect. They made the right choice.

There are plenty of examples of all-pro lineman drafted after the first round. In fact there are way more that weren't first rounders than were. Trai Turner was a second off the top of my head, and I'm pretty sure he's at least been a pro bowler.

So far not at all. Did absolutely nothing. That Clemson Oline guy looks so fat and out of shape. I hope Joe doesnt have his career end in another year or two because Cincy didnt do a whole lot in addressing their biggest issue the Oline.

Offensive line is a constant need that each year needs to be addressed. Cin. has too long not even thought about it.

They spent the majority of their draft on big heavies - 3 OL and 4 DL plus picked up Trey Hendrickson from the Saints who was second in the NFL in Sacks. You have to address needs across the field.

This article oddly enough from the The Seattle Times:
https://www.seattletimes.com/sports/bengals-fill-urgent-needs-in-draft-build-around-qb-burrow/

quote:

CINCINNATI (AP) — The Cincinnati Bengals focused on their lines during this year’s NFL draft. If they got it right, Joe Burrow should enjoy much better protection in his second season.

Burrow, the top overall pick in 2020, had his rookie year cut short when his pocket collapsed on him during a Week 11 loss to Washington, resulting in a season-ending knee injury.

The Bengals continued to build around their quarterback in the draft, reuniting him with one of his favorite receivers at LSU and adding three more offensive linemen among their 10 picks.

Cincinnati took star receiver Ja’Marr Chase at No. 5 overall — passing on elite Oregon tackle Penei Sewell — and traded back in the second round before taking versatile Clemson lineman Jackson Carman. It grabbed East Carolina tackle D’Ante Smith with the last of its three fourth-rounders, and selected Georgia center Trey Hill in the sixth round.

The Bengals also addressed their inability to chase down opposing quarterbacks, taking four defensive players.

Chase and Burrow already have big-time chemistry. They were teammates in 2019 when LSU won the national championship, Burrow got the Heisman Trophy and Chase took home the Biletnikoff Award as college football’s best receiver.

Chase, who opted out of the 2020 season, gives the Bengals another exciting skill player and deep threat that has been lacking since A.J. Green was in his prime.

Thanks to the deep class of offensive linemen, Carman, one of the Bengals’ top targets, was still available in the second round, even after they traded down eight spots to 46th overall.

ABOUT THAT O-LINE

Cincinnati is high on the 6-foot-5, 335-pound Carman, who is expected to come in and compete for a starting spot at guard. The addition of Carman, Smith and Hill comes after the team signed veteran tackle Riley Reiff in free agency.

“There’s a bunch of guys in there that I feel really good about,” offensive coordinator Brian Callahan said. “I think our team is in a much better place now that it was even a year ago, and I’m really excited about the direction we can go. Obviously, the core of it all centers around (Burrow), so that’s exciting to me.”

D-LINE DEPTH

Cincinnati, last in the NFL in 2020 in sacks and among the worst at stopping the run, bolstered its group of defensive linemen.

The Bengals snagged edge-rushing specialist Joseph Ossai, who played linebacker at Texas, in the third. Then they took Tulane defensive end Cameron Sample, the defensive player of the game at the Senior Bowl, and another former Burrow teammate, LSU nose tackle Tyler Shelvin, in the fourth. They grabbed Kansas State defensive end Wyatt Hubert with their final pick in the seventh round.

The new guys will get a chance to crack a rotation that should include a now-healthy D.J. Reader and free-agent acquisitions Trey Hendrickson and Larry Ogunjobi.

KICKIN’ IT

Cincinnati took Florida kicker Evan McPherson in the fifth round to compete with Austin Seibert. McPherson, the first kicker off the board, hit 51 of 60 field goals and 149 of 150 PATs at Florida. He made four field goals over 50 yards last season.

NEW LOOK BENGALS

Having parted ways with aging fixtures Green, Carlos Dunlap, Geno Atkins and Giovani Bernard, the Bengals continued to rebuild under second-year coach Zac Taylor. After being decimated by injuries to key players throughout the 2020 season — including Burrow — the Bengals should be better.
