I hate that a kid is dead, but this is absolutely not on the cop. He had maybe 1 second to determine whether or not he was going to die. I would have reacted the same way.

You mean appears to drop gun after magazine has been emptied and slide is locked back?

13 year old...2:30 AM on Monday March, 29.
You know where my 13 year old was on March 29th at 2:30 AM? Asleep in his bed for roughly 4+ hours.

Good catch, but it doesn't fit into the media efforts to trash the policeman. Kid would have shot the policeman if he could have.

I don't think that's the case. I think the kid was trying to ditch but got fricked over by circumstance.
Not that this is on the officer at all. He did what he had to do.
Just a shitty situation all around.

This is just heartbreaking.....he is just a child......why is he running around out there with a gun....where are the patents?

Currently? Meeting with attorneys. They would like to be paid for their failure as parents.

One less thug on the streets. If he’s acting like this at 13, he would’ve found himself in jail for murder later in life. Him dying probably saved a few lives down the road.

That's begging the question.

Most likely. However, thugs shooting thugs makes Darwin smile.

do you really expect a 13 year old special needs kid to have that thought process?
what is the point of that?

So now we're supposed to care about black people dying in Chicago?!?

Been perusing the various reddit subs on this and honestly feel like I'm getting dumber just by reading those frick stupid takes.
Honestly, I get being upset with policing in this country. Truly. I really fricking do. But this one is a bad example. Officer had literally less than a second from the time the kid ditched the gun to decide whether to fire the fatal shot.
All these wannabe gunslinger badasses are just so God damned stupid. It's not like the officer had time to review the scenario 5 or 10 times in his head before he could act, and few people alive, no matter their level training, would have held their shot.
Argh.

What we should be asking in Killcago is WHY the kid has the damn gun to begin with?
Impossible. Chicago has some of the strictest gun control laws in the USA.
I thought the Chicago law meant no guns outside the home unless you have a permit!
Was this firearm purchased legally?

Gun laws in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco are all much stricter than Chicago’s are today.
If you live in the city of Chicago, you can own firearms. However, you have to meet certain conditions:
You must be 21 years old or older
You must possess a firearm owner’s identification card (FOID)
You must have a concealed carry license if you intend to remove your gun from your home

If the call wasn’t for an actual shooter and the suspect wasn’t running and actually didn't have a gun it would be different.
Zero way for that cop to know he tossed it behind fence.

a special needs kid.
Many situations like this one involve a mental disability of some kind.
But there’s little to no way LE can be expected to ascertain that during a live action incident.
Sad situation for sure, and I’m genuinely sorry for his loved ones.
But as has been said, this kid shouldn’t have been out at 2:30am.
People can analyze the situation extensively; but sometimes bad things just happen.

why does a 13 year old "special needs kid" (supposedly) have the nickname "lil homicide"?
