are "new clubs" worth it?

I've had my Nike's for 13 years, but they're starting to get pretty banged up. What Im trying to figure out is, do newer clubs help your game - as in technology etc is much better than in 2008? Of course the commercials tell me yes, but Im not sure if I believe that.
Im not new to golf, and my handicaps is 12. - Should I invest in some name brand expensive clubs?

What Nike’s do you have? They’re a collectors item now and you may get more than what you might think by selling.

Scratch that, hell yes
The distance and forgiveness improvements in irons and woods has been pretty impressive since 2008. Couple that with Nike clubs not exactly being the best to start with and I think you owe it to yourself to at least go swing some new sticks.

I think they can. But ultimately it's all about comfort level. As far as irons go, I think they have gotten more forgiving and "hotter" so to speak. Honestly the most important thing is the shaft.

I'm sure you could find a newer set with an on-course trial for 30 days. You owe it to yourself to maximize your game. Generally, you won't hit much further with newer irons (5-10 yard increase max), but you'll likely be more accurate.
As far as drivers are concerned, I hit a TM SIM 2 recently and I'm pretty sure it still hasn't landed.

I'm personally looking to get fitted when I buy my next set. I play pretty average and somewhat consistent with my clubs but they're only 2-3 years old. If I'm going to fork out the money for another set, I'm going to fork out the extra money to get properly fitted.
I definitely noticed a big difference between my previous set and my current set when I bought them.

most likely you would benefit from new clubs. especially if you are going for a club with a little more tech. if you had 13 year old blades and looking for new blades the difference wouldn’t be as noticeable.

Depends on the club and what you’re after. I still play with Calloway x18 irons from 2005, white hot #7 XG putter, R1 driver, R11s woods. Personally I don’t think all new clubs will shave any strokes off my game. I do have newer shafts in all those clubs but it’s all about feel and comfortability for me.

I learned, about 50 years ago now, that you can have a cheap clubhead, and a crappy shaft, and you'll have a shitty club. You can take that same cheap clubhead, put a good shaft in it (properly aligned), and adjust the lie angle to your swing. You'll have a very good club. All the rest is marketing hype and advertising bullshite.

I'm in the same boat. All of my clubs less my wedges are about the same age as yours. I am now torn on wether to replace irons, fairway woods (or both of these) or my driver. I'm starting to think the driver should be my last priority as I don't have a distance problem but having more forgiving irons could really cut the score down more than an extra 15-20 yards with a driver.

if you think you will be playing a lot more going forward I think it’s worth it. it’s expensive but also maybe you won’t change clubs for another 10+ years again.

I just upgraded from 2003 TA5's to P770's this year. I am definitely seeing a difference, however the first 5 rounds has been figuring out distances, etc.
But when I flush them babies, its a feeling like no other.
Also went from SLDR to SIM2...it's added 20 yards and I was already pretty long.

I think that when you get behind 2 models in ages, then yes that is a difference.
Do my new G425 irons perform better than my old G410s not really.
But are they better than the G400s, the answer is yes.
Shafts and MOI are constantly changing every couple of cycles.

I just got a new set of sub70 699 irons and the sub70 939x hybrid and 3 wood. I was playing 10 year old Calloway irons that were not built for me. The difference is huge. I have so much more confidence when I hit a shot because of how forgiving they are. My miss hits are right off the green instead of being 15 yards in the wrong direction.
Having fitted clubs makes a big difference.

Go to Club Champion and get fitted.
It might help you get to single digits.

I'm waiting for the Sub 70 739's to be restocked so I can order a set. This will be my 1st fitted set.

New TSi3 driver is unreal. Best club in America right now

I replaced my circa 1995 driver with a 2020 Callaway driver and when I hit my first ball with it, I thought I had achieved atomic fission. I didn’t just hit it, I annihilated it.
Now that’s a pretty radical difference in years, but I was not very committed to the game in the past and hadn’t played in about 20 years until this past year.
