An expectation isn’t an assumption. Not sure why you equate the two.

What we did assume we knew was that our pitching staff would be excellent. That alone should make you competitive in every series and win a lot of them. We assumed we would hit better than last year. Just because those assumptions are wrong so far does not mean the expectations were unfounded or unrealistic.

I can honestly say I expected what is happening. The roster is not that good but people don’t want to admit it.

Based upon pre-season projections and our string of supposed top recruiting classes, I expected us to host a regional at the very least, and be a contender to host a super regional and go to Omaha.

My baseline expectations for LSU going into every season is host a regional and go to a super regional. That means you are one of the best 16 teams every year. I don’t think that’s unrealistic for LSU to achieve every year. After that I would expect LSU to be in 2 out of every 4 years. Once there you never know what could happen.

17-13 and a regional host.

I knew the SEC was going to be loaded.

It did not realize the season would unravel the way it did.

Winning maybe 3 -4 more games in conference, not make the SEC tournament, no post season. I am not a negatiger! I am just being honest and giving my opinion. I’ll watch every game but it is what it is.

My exact prediction has been spot on to this point.

We would have to go on a serious tear to get to .500, baw

ETA: You probably meant overall and not just SEC play....nm

You're not exactly wrong about the pitching and hitting, but you’re also describing a homer/optimist. The question was what’s realistic. LSU was the worst hitting team in the SEC last year, what were your expectations for their hitting? This is where we arrive back at homer/optimist thing. If you thought this team would be good hitting, then you weren’t being realistic.

Realistic expectations for this team was a bit above .500. Which isn’t good enough for LSU, but that isn’t the question/debate. Omaha was just purple and gold colored glasses.

Hopes - Omaha

Realistic expectations - 15-20 SEC wins.

Thought our starting pitching would give us a chance to win 2 of 3 in every series. TBH, Hill has been a let down. As have Beleso and Fontenot. And have no integrated approach to winning games.

Now hoping we can claw our way to double digit wins and make the field.

What hitting last year are y'all talking about? We played 17 games and never got to SEC games.

Pre-SEC. Covid saved them, because their hitting would have been even more exposed last year had they gotten to SEC play.

Not being argumentative but that's still an assumption. Cabrera, Beloso, Gio, and the lead off guy (from CA) should have given us 4 LH batters all around .300.

Just sayin' it had potential to be serviceable.

Ok how about just hosting a regional? Meaning we’re one of the top 16 teams. Unrealistic?

A 2 seed at hopefully an easy to win regional which would go on to be a Super Regional against a team we go either way against

Nope, I could agree with that.

What was your realistic expectation for LSU baseball this season?

I knew the SEC was deep this year, so even if we had a good season, we would still likely be anywhere from 6th to 1st.

Even under the best scenario we were only gonna start the year with 6 SEC wins. So this has been pretty rough, but I could have seen it before SEC play started. It doesn't mean I don't hols Paul accountable, its just not surprising.
