I think it’s less about the $ amount and more about freedom. I’d rather make less but be able to get up and take a trip at any point than make more and be stuck with 1 week off a year

True. Benefits and hours are just as important to me as income.

this.

I eclipse 6 figures by a cûnt hair but the median salary in my zip code is over $160k, so I’m considered in poverty

but the standard new build neighborhood "starter" homes in most of the south are right around $400k give or take for the cost of living.

In the bigger cities, probably. But I can get one here for that, and its FAR more expensive here than in the South.

My brother is a CPA in La, has two 300k homes and they are very nice.

His ex lives in one.

The thought of having a family with kids and tuition gives me anxiety

I can relate to this feeling when I was 30.

It's important you marry the right lady who has similar education, values and drive as you do... from there you figure it out as you go....trust me, it works out

BUT! just think about this reality..

you're making 100k, single and having kids to pay for stress you out, right....

now imagine if you're a single mother who has 5 kids from 3 different men making a little over min wages? and the men (fathers) are nowhere to be found.

a generalization but for the most part this is going on in America and it has produced the inner city black culture and BLM...

meanwhile woke nation and our over sized government is trying to bring equality to these poor people

there can't be equality when you do life backwards...

that's why decisions are big in life

when to have children?

After education,
After skill training
After job set
After marriage

Poor people do it all backwards, kid first, and basically a life long struggle from there...

if you notice, the conversation in America never gets around to talking about people making better choices, nope, it's about white supremacy and how we need to defeat it...

we're trying to beat something that doesn't even exist and giving POC the illusion things will get better for them

life is an individual sport

I don’t make a whole lot but I have a low interest rate on my mortgage, my truck is paid off and I don’t have A FREAKING BOSS!!!......clearly, the last part is what is best.

When I retired from a middle manager job in 2015 my salary plus bonus was right about $120K, so, that is the right answer.

It's not so much the earned income, rather the passive. I assume you're in your 20s or early 30s, and thus most of your income is earned through wages. Relying on earned income is more fraught than passive, hence why you don't feel like you're doing well. Hopefully you're investing 15-20% of that, so when you're in your 40s or 50s you are earning 100k+ in passive income.

Correct. Think a positive thing I have going for me is high savings rate (45% of gross) and not much of a desire for “stuff”.

I don't have an earning problem, just a spending problem. Well not me, everyone else in my family.

True. With a family my expense will go up, but so will my joint income with wife.

Doesn’t matter how much you make. If you’re debt free, you’re “well off”.

Also, you have a LOT less stress, and have much more flexibility in your life. Funny how more women don’t understand that.

Purely subjective of course Six figures or thereabouts seems about right? Dunno I think a lot of ppl lie about the money they make.

Every person on this site lies about what they make, does for a living, or has done in their past to a certain extent.

The main thing is it doesn’t matter what your income is. If you don’t live outside your means then you will be totally comfortable. Between my wife and I, we make more than enough for our lifestyle.

Granted, we are not trying to keep up with the Jones’ either. We have a nice home, can have a big vacation every year, wife stays in a vehicle under warranty, and we don’t really worry about money.

If you are the type of person that likes craft beer and the finer liquors, expensive clothes and jewelry, and all the latest in fashion stuff, then your need for money goes up.

We alway used to chase that dollar when we were younger, but now we realize our off time, and family time is worth a lot more.

IF you cant survive off of 70k a year single, anything over 100k married with no kids, you need to re-think your spending habits.
