While I love this movie to my core, there’s one scene in the training in Siberia section that always bugged me.

The scene where he’s running, evades the KGB, then somehow climbs a mountain that looks like fricking K2 with no gear and yells DRAGOOOOOOO at the top of his lungs. I get the yelling Drago part. But dude seriously climbed a mountain that looked like one false step or slip and he’s a dead man?

ETA: I fully expect to get down voted into oblivion and know I should suspend reality, it just always stuck in my mind.

You have to take this movie with a grain of salt and just enjoy it for the hokey, very ‘80s film that it is.

Obviously either Stallone or his stunt double actually ran on that mountain. CGI wasn't up to that task in 1985.

An unbelievable amount of that movie is rock music montages.

Like I’m not even lying. It’s a 90 minute movie, and I think maybe 20 minutes is non-montage.

I noticed that when I rewatched it for the first time since childhood and back to back with the other movies. I totally forgot how its basically a few minutes of dialogue and then a 5 minute montage.

It’s amazing how much plot they actually fit into so little screen time with the bulk being montages.

during the february winter storm i wanted to have my rocky 4 moment so i went on a 4 mile run one morning when it was like 4 degrees out.

turned around and headed back home after about a mile. yea, rocky would have died on that mountain, or at the very least lost half his face to frostbite

Because the rest of the movie was totally believable?

(I love Rocky IV, for the record. Grew up on the franchise...it was hitting right along with Star Wars)

I mean, if we're going to go all "real life" on the Rocky series, then every single boxer in every single fight would have died in the ring. No one could survive the kind of hammer blows those guys were landing over and over on each other every round.

Which brings up an interesting question. The Rocky movies were some of the most popular of the 1980's. You would think the sport of boxing would have benefited greatly from the exposure it received as a result. Instead, boxing spent the next ten years plummeting down the "most popular sports" ranks, going from national obsession to national afterthought in blinding speed. Could the Rocky movies have had something to do with that? Did they raise a generation of potential fans to expect every boxing match to be a monumental brawl rather than an often slow-paced contest of endurance and technique? I could see that playing a part, even if only a small one, in boxing's precipitous decline.

Dude Stallone fricking ice climbs a mountain in Cliffhanger with no gear like crampons or an ice axe.

He just punches his fist through the ice wall and pulls himself up.
