What would you say are your go-to / must haves as far as top water baits for reds?

Reds will hit all your traditional topwater plugs. Spittn Image was a good one that is hard to find.

For added fun you can use topwater frogs if you are coming from the bass world.

In my experience. A red fish will either hit topwater or he won’t even sniff it. When they are in the mood to hit topwater they will obliterate just about anything you throw out there. Top Dawgs are popular with a lot of folks. I like the popper style topwaters for marsh fishing.

I had one hit an orange popping cork about 10 times on a couple of cast.

Wouldn't touch the damned grub under the cork

She Dogs for trout and reds. Chrome is my favorite. Also bone & red/white

This. If they are hitting, you can put a bottle cap on a hook and throw it and catch them.

When I had my flatsboat we used to fish some ponds off the twin pipeline canal out a Delacroix. We would get in the channels just wide enough for the boat that had grass on both sides. Two people on the bow throwing white/Chartreuse buzz baits was the ticket every time.

Texas rigged ribbit frogs. They stay on the surface with a slow retrieve but can sink if you stop. Reds have an easier time eating things below their mouth so you can stop reeling if they miss

This and it’s not even close. Always have 1 or 2 tied on in the boat before I leave Marina. My brothers and I always do well throwing She Dogs, top pups, pup jr.

The chrome & black is a good color along with chartreuse & chrome. My favorite color for muddy/ dirty water is pink & black.

She dog black and speckled trout color. I caught 12 reds over 20” on the speckled trout she dog on Sunday in upper laguna madre throwing over grass flats.

I like a smaller topwater bait for reds. The baby zara spook or the matrix topwater. If you get the mini zaraspook you will want to change out the hooks. A white buzz bait will get bit as well but a bigger red will bend them so they never run right again.
