Why were schools cancelled in south LA today?

It’s a little windy with a few sprinkles of rain
This is driven by the teachers who are becoming so pampered. It may rain hard today, better shut down the schools.
They get paid no matter how many days the school closes. I say that their pay should be based on how many days they work like most other people. Let’s see how many days school is cancelled then.

They were expecting tornadic weather and potentially dangerous storms around the times buses would normally be dropping kids off after school.

I'm waiting on that shoe to finally drop.

because the same system that is currently destroying parts of Alabama and Mississippi was forecasted to hit south LA
they missed on LA, but didn't miss on MS and AL

Although I agree that SELA schools should not have been closed today (schools here were open), teachers don't make that decision. Do you think they do? Lol

shite's so stupid. Any liability on school systems FOR HAVING SCHOOL would be a gigantic reach. Legislature should declare specific immunity for them for such silliness and be done with it.

Private schools were not cancelled

They are. They work a contract for X number of days, with built in weather days and teacher work days. If more days are canceled than are allotted, they are required to make those days up.

What's that have to do with being in school or not?

I guess they didn't want to be letting kids out during severe storms

In Baton Rouge? I didn’t see that anywhere
Parents can keep their kids home if they don’t think it’s safe.

I can remember at least two times seeing a funnel cloud while getting dropped off by the bus. We all thought it was cool as shite and having to haul arse home in driving rain and hail. We survived.
