re: If Orgeron is capable of fixing the downfall after 2019, why didn’t he prevent them?

why trying to surround a recruiter as a HC with elite coordinators is not a feasible strategy for sustained success.

Meh... I probably would have done the same. It's hard not to celebrate such an amazing season. He's earned another chance to fix it IMO. He delivered literally the greatest college football season in the history of college football. I'm ok with our crazy cajun coach getting a little unfocused in the off-season after a season like that. He should get the benefit of doubt from us. I'm ready to see what this year brings

Terrible comparison because Dabo has a great DC-for-Life with him, so doesnt face the same obstacles as Coach O trying to replace both coordinators every few years- whether they are good or bad.

To fix the issues now means he has to identify them. If he’s capable of identifying what went wrong last year, why couldn’t he prevent these issues?
I feel like if he couldn’t identify the problems prior to 2020, how can he know how to fix them for 2021?
I think the expectations for the 2020 team were way out of whack.
Add to that only 3 or 4 starters returning last year, opt-outs, Brennan's injury, unforseen Coordinator anomalies, the pandemic, close early losses to State and Mizzou, (esp. Mizzou - last play) and all SEC schedule. Much of that was out of O's control.
Literally NONE of the above is true going into 2021.
We return practically all the starters, have strong depth at most positions, have promising (though admittedly unproven) Coordinators, probably at least 50%+ capacity stadium capacity etc. We may have one of the best QB situations in the country. O and the team itself seem much more confident. Three straight top 5 recruiting classes, with more to come. I am excited about the coaching staff also.
I'd be disappointed if we don't win at least 9 games.
edit - If you were speaking of the off-the-field issues, I think Coach O handled suspensions and problem players sufficiently.

That's like saying that if a heart surgeon is capable of saving someone's life after a torn aorta, why didn't they prevent it from happening in the first place? I mean, there's a huge difference between analyzing and fixing something that's already happened and reading the future to know exactly when it will happen and taking measures to stop it.

maybe the way he did 2018 and then did 2019. Then, I have heard, he had some issues (non football related) in 2011 the he took care of later that year. So there are various ways that people go about fixing ups and downs in life and in football. Sometimes in life you just have to see which way the ball bounces also. So there are a lot of ins and outs to these sort of things, as in life, so as in coaching.

So you patched up that leak in your roof that flooded your bedroom.
If you could fix that why not prevent it before it happened.

I think is a legitimate question. LSU had a lot of quitters, but O did not even interview Pelini. This was a monumental mistake. IMO the kind of mistake one gets fired over. This year will reveal what kind of coach he is.

A young team is going to be affected more by not having a proper offseason.

Because it is easier after the fact to look back on your mistakes and correct things going forward. Often, when you are in the moment you are doing what you think is right.

A better example is clogged arteries. You can assess this risk in advance (either through cholesterol blood testing or by heart scans), if a doctor is doing his job, so heart surgery often shouldn't be necessary because you can take appropriate steps to prevent it.
Many aspects of life are like this -- keep eyes open and assess what's going on to see potential problems on the horizon. Then fix the stuff that's starting the turn bad, before it gets to a full-blown crisis.
Now of course this doesn't apply to every single thing in coaching or in life, but the point is to anticipate problems as best you can, to address them early before they turn catestrophic.

I think O just got caught in a bad situation with the team that went off the rails faster than he could keep up with. shite happens. Live and learn. And another season like 2020 will have him looking for something else to do on Saturdays.

It's really hard for me to put into words the level of dumb I think this is. And that in turn now has me questioning your level of intelligence which, beforehand, had you at nearly average.

I can forgive a coach for having tunnel vision on his way to a perfect season. As it is, we finished 500 in an all SEC schedule in an off year where we lost our starting QB early and had to replace a DC and Heisman winning QB from the year before.
They basically had to replace the team in the weirdest SEC football season in living memory with basically no spring ball and mountains of uncertainty. I am not sure why people want to feel like that is a new normal.
