Alex Smith was terrible last year and he was, rightfully, afraid to get hit.

I’m quite sure there are a plethora of things that you cannot understand. In this instance, it may be wise to let CSP handle the decision making.

Agreed, I’m not sure what he really brings to the table.
We can probably save a lot of money not signing a punter.

Save the money and let him walk. Let Taysom take over and draft a young kid.

If we were fully committed to a rebuild I’d say roll with Taysom, do a semi “tank” and try to get as many impact draft picks in the next few seasons. But it appears SP thinks we’re still in a position to be a contender with above average QB play plugged in (whether Jameis can provide that remains to be seen, obviously). And it certainly seems that way with the contract extensions/restructures this off-season etc.

if the goal is to keep this core together and possibly extend our window, then the best route is to bet on Sean being able to develop Jameis. He has elite physical tools and has put up numbers in this league. I wouldn't say its likely but its a reasonable bet

Winston is absolutely a gunslinger, but I also think as much as people want to point out the struggles in Tampa they should also point out he never had any semblance of an OL, running game, and shoddy coaching until Arians whose entire scheme just enhanced the wildness of Jameis.

Watson and Wilson will be really expensive if they do move. Meaning we’ll have to give up multiple big pieces to get either one. QB gets an upgrade sure, but what about the rest of the team as a whole?
I trust Sean on qbs. If he thinks we can win with Winston, let’s ride. Remember he’s been developing him for a year under Brees no less. A lot of these negative reactions are based on what they recall of Jameis and who he used to be. The question is has he progressed, and if so how much? I think he’s talented enough to get another shot whether it’s with us or not. Regardless, I don’t think he has a better chance to succeed than in the position he’s currently in.
Value for money upside is huge.

How will this board survive without all the threads about every journeyman QB in the league who would be "perfect for our system"?

if its a heavy cap hit the next 2 years, we will not be drafting a qb.

I don’t think Winston is the future. Guy has an IQ barely above retarded and a great NFL QB requires more than athletic ability. You have to have a deep understanding of formations and make quick decisions along with be a leader of the whole team. I don’t think Winston has that and that’s why he has so many turnovers. Makes poor reads and lacks understanding of the defense

Winston scored a 27 on wonderlic. That's 1 less than drew and Peyton Manning

Guarantee you his Wonderlic is higher than yours

He also was the valedictorian of his HS and got accepted into Stanford. Now his HS was probably small and Stanford probably lowers the academic standards at least some for athletes, but he’s no where near the idiot people think he is. Immaturity was more his problem, but many of his issues were years ago now.

he got a 27 on the Wonderlic
that translates to a 111 IQ
a 27 is the average score for a Librarian, Copywriter, or Investment Analyst
*ETA: and that's 1 below what Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Russell Wilson all got on the test
