What I hate about this season most...
We have sucked just enough to universally pi55 everyone off, to see the season as a complete failure, despite the league doing their best to get us in the playoffs and Zion on tv by making up ridiculous playoff spots that we still can’t achieve...
But we haven’t quite sucked enough to get one of these top 5 potentially game changing picks.
It literally couldn’t be worse in terms of positioning, making teams below us better...and us not moving the needle at all.

Yeah, we're going to get Nickeil back in about a week, and then we're going to go on a run and win enough games to just barely miss out on the play-in game.
It's frustrating, because if we have a healthy NAW and Hart, we make the play-in. But we've been the healthiest team in the league this season, so we can't really use that as an excuse.

well hell.
if you are going to invent the future with a nice win streak please put the pels into the 10 spot.
two wins and a 7 game series vs clippers.

Kispert and Wagner should be at the top of our list at this range. Both are good team defenders with at least one NBA ready skill on offense. I have a feeling we trade all of our picks, however

right now new orleans is one game better than two teams. in 10th worst.
13% chance of top 4.
based on injuries and the team as i see it imho pels will drop and move into the 8th worst. 23% of chance of top 4.
and 29% chance is within reach.
the remaining schedule is full of tough ones.

I predicted all of this when I was saying how important it was to get off Lonzo, now we are screwed even more because a sign and trade will extremely difficult and it's harder to trade in the off season vs the trade deadline. We should have traded Lonzo and bled for Sato with Chicago. Smart fans would have understood, while dumb fans would have whine and said we should have gotten more. Luckily for the dumb fans, Griff is optimistically dumb, so he thought Lonzo was "worth more" and now Lonzo may walk for nothing while we have to attach a positive asset to get off Bled.
Tried telling you guys the HONEST truth but I was called an idiot.

Now you making things up, this trade was never reported by anyone.

I'm pretty sure there was plenty of talk about Lonzo going to Chicago. I think both teams as well as Lonzo wanted this trade to happen, but it didn't.
quote:
The Bulls have been a consistent name mentioned in trade talks with Ball, particularly in the week leading up to the trade deadline. One of the previous packages included Tomas Satoransky and second-round picks for Ball.
I wouldn't have wanted that package either. Make it a first and yeah i'd do it as a last resort, but Sato and some worthless 2nds, no thanks.
quote:
However, the Markkanen trade package has been far more consistent and remains more likely. In theory, Markannen would be a fit offensively next to Zion Williamson for the Pelicans. However, a lineup consisting of Williamson, Markkanen and Brandon Ingram would struggle defensively and a trade for Markkanen would likely require Steven Adams be dealt to open up a spot in the starting lineup as well.
I don't think we wanted Markkanen, but probably told Chicago go get something specific for Markkanen from a 3rd team for us.

You are missing the point, with Griff having negative assets plus a meh player what's best for business is NOT being picky and staying put.
Folks who argued that staying put were basically saying staying in place would yield better results in the off season which is NOT true since a sign and trade is tough to do, or a chance that keeping Lonzo and POTENTIALLY Bledsoe were helpful for competing for a playoff spot which smart fans should have realized was not the case
Basically a shitty trade was literally the most realistic and reasonable situation to avoid optimism Griff overpaying Lonzo, getting off Bledsoe without giving up draft capital or young player, or letting Zo walk for nothing.
I just can't see how staying put with not trading Zo was ever a good idea. But folks just kept it simple saying the Bulls trade was "bad". Like there is a ton of nunance to all of this, I'm tired of fans looking at everything as black and white.

Having Sacto right now would have given us two seconds, with Bledsoe off the books and Lonzo gone gives us more cap flexibility, and more direction in the off season.

Honestly, still can occur. he's still a RFA and if Chicago wants him that badly (hoping NY bids against them), we can do something along the lines of lining up a trade to help facilitate.

Are you doing these trade on 2k because in what world would the Bulls trade for Lonzo and Bled and all we had to do is take back Sacto.

This is a fun one from Jonathan Wasserman. This morning he released an article titled 3 Realistic Draft Targets for Every NBA Team. Here's what he said for the Pels:
It will be interesting to see if the Pels' draft strategy changes more to "fit" like Wasserman sees or we stay on the BPA course and athletic outliers that Trajan has said and shown.
quote:
Projected draft range: Late lottery
Davion Mitchell (Baylor, PG/SG, Junior)
Role: Backcourt energizer
If the New Orleans Pelicans aren't prepared to match an enormous offer for Lonzo Ball in restricted free agency, they could target Mitchell in the draft. While Kira Lewis Jr. figures to play a bigger role next season, Mitchell offers more defensive pressure and explosiveness attacking the rim.
Moses Moody (Arkansas, SG, Freshman)
Role: Off-ball scorer
The Pelicans could value Moody's skill set over Eric Bledsoe's. The 6'6", 19-year-old 2-guard thrives as a spot-up shooter and opportunistic scorer who seeks out opportunities from off the ball within the flow of the team's offense. He's a better fit than Bledsoe in a lineup with go-to options Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson.
Corey Kispert (Gonzaga, SF, Senior)
Role: Shooter
The Pelicans rank No. 26 in three-point shooting and could find a cheap, quick solution with Kispert. Aside from his reputable stroke and percentages, his off-ball scoring efficiency, decision-making and IQ at both ends bode well for his role-player potential.

Doesn't matter if i was picking 5th or 12th, that would be my 3 top guys, with Moody being first.
Posted on 4/27/21 at 11:14 pm to kadillak
Assuming Pels will be picking around 10th overall, any of these guys I would be pretty happy with. Would love to snag Jalen Johnson or Ziaire Williams but have a feeling those two and Barnes will be gone.
MOSES MOODY - G | Arkansas
SCOTTIE BARNES - F | Florida State
JALEN JOHNSON - F | Duke
ZIAIRE WILLIAMS - F | Stanford
COREY KISPERT - SF | Gonzaga
KEON JOHNSON - G | Tennessee
DAVION MITCHELL - G | Baylor
CAMERON THOMAS - G | LSU

Some recent mock drafts...
Two from Jonathan Wasserman. He did a full two round mock last week. These were our selections and his notes.
I think we can all agree we will be trading some of those second round picks. Murphy and Edwards would be tremendous shooting pickups though. I'd honestly prefer Murphy at the end of the first/second than taking Kispert in the lottery.
He also did a 1st round mock with the final standings and lottery odds.

11. Moses Moody (Arkansas, SG, Freshman)
36. Trey Murphy III (Virginia, PF, Junior)
40. Charles Bassey (Western Kentucky, C, Junior)
42. Kessler Edwards (Pepperdine, SF, Junior)
53. Ariel Hukporti (Nevezis Kedainiai, C, 2002)
The Pelicans have four second-round picks, so don't expect them to make selections with each one. But Edwards could be an enticing target anywhere in the 30s or 40s for his shooting and shot-making versatility as a 6'8" small forward.

Odds at No. 1 overall: 3.8 percent
Odds at top four: 17.3 percent
While Lonzo Ball's impending free agency could factor into the New Orleans Pelicans' decision here, a desire to re-sign him won't deter them from drafting Davion Mitchell.
The breakout junior played on and off the ball next to Jared Butler at Baylor. New Orleans could see an interchangeable guard capable of playmaking, spot-up shooting and defending undersized thanks to his strength, effort and pressure.
There are questions about the upside of a prospect turning 23 years old in September. But the Pelicans may like the idea of adding a rookie who can immediately play impactful minutes with his explosiveness off the dribble and defensive toughness.

This name does not belong with the others. Even if you think he’ll be a scorer in the NBA, a volume guy that was one of the worst defenders in college who wouldnt pass to Zion is not who this team needs

I'll be honest, more I look at this class the more I meh on it. Really good at the top, but fizzles pretty quickly.

Agreed. Most of them were disappointing in the tournament. Especially Kispert and Moody.
