Wiki, google and ballotpedia shows that Nungesser did not endorse anyone against JBE and as far as I'm aware, did not show up to any of the Trump rallies in support of Abraham and Rispone

A lot of people are talking about Jeff Landry being an opportunist but if they want to look at real opportunism, they have to look no further than the fat tub of shite we have as our LT Governor who is the most JBE friendly RINO in the state who wants to run in 2023 and would've been badly hurt by a republican winning the Governor's race and refused to support Abraham/Rispone and did not show up at the Trump rallies.

Jeff Landry for all his faults was a team player and supported Rispone even if it meant he could not be Governor until 2027 at the earliest and showed up to all 3 Trump rallies in 2019.

This alone says it all why Billy Nungesser should not be Governor and why he is an abomination to Conservatives in Louisiana.

I noticed this, too, and figured it was for the exact reasons you mentioned; Nungesser didn't want a Republican governor to screw up his chances in 2023.

Are we assuming Landry and Nungesser are the only two possible GOP choices (hell, who knows, it may be a valid assumption)?

frick!

Nungesser is JBE with an R next to his name. He's been a toady for his tax and spend agenda and has said not one word about JBE's covid lockdown bullshite, hell he hasn't said one negative word about him that I can recall in the last six years.

Nungesser will be the reason another Democrat becomes Governor. Is this really the best this state have to offer? Another slimey arse corrupt Republican?

Not a great choice, but of the two Nungesser possesses less weasel characteristics. Landry becoming AG was the Peter principle at work.

Go with the team player, Jeff Landry, who supported conservative efforts to get rid of JBE, not the RINO opportunist who stayed on the sidelines hoping JBE wins so he can run in 2023.

We're seeing 8 years of a liberal tax and spend tyrant in John Bel Edwards ravage the Louisiana economy, steals billions our own money with nothing positive to show for it, and has gleefully and arrogantly harmed our means to make a living, and refuses to do anything about the fact that Louisiana is losing more and more population.

And yet the trend on this board is to play purity contest looking for a great white hope of a messiah that will save Louisiana and dog pile a conservative (In this case, Landry) who's not a RINO over his decorum, personal taste, accent, general behavior.

This board has absolutely no idea how to get to yes on a serviceable Governor who will stay out of our way, leave us alone, stop stealing our money and let us live our lives in freedom.

But then again, it's the same people that couldn't get to yes on David Vitter who was hated by all the usual suspects that keep Louisiana shitty and had a vested interest in keeping it that way so they fed gullible people including many on this board hookers and honor code propaganda and to their absolute delight, watched it be swallowed heartily.

It seems weird to pin this as an issue against "the board."

You can pretend it's something else all you want, but the fact is, the republican party in Louisiana is a disaster with regard to its historical candidate field, and the whirlwind of that is what we reap.

It's got jack to do with the board.

They are almost certainly in the running.
Good chance US Rep Mike Johnson gets in and maybe Garret Graves. State Senator Sharon Hewitt has been positioning herself, but I don't see it.

Maybe an outside shot Treasurer Schroeder runs, but I doubt it. I think he is on team Landry (but that is a guess not informed by any substantiated knowledge).

And Dems will dredge up someone too.

Nungesser sucks arse.

He tries to play the part but does absolutely nothing to help businesses except for things that are optics-positive. Nothing he's actually done is beneficial.

Landry hasn't done much either but has at least been vocal about being against JBE and taken some steps.

Nungesser just keeps sucking JBE off.

The idea that the State GOP is this all powerful organization that keeps forcing less than desirable candidates on us is a myth that needs to be debunked.

The Louisiana GOP is one of the least powerful party organizations in the country and that's by design due to how our election system works with non-partisan jungle primaries.

They work for the politicians, not the other way around like so many people on this board and in real life think they do.

Indeed the weakness of the apparatus is a big issue. I'm not suggesting there's an easy fix. I just think you are too often sniping at the wrong things, though. shite candidates are going to turn a segment of the voting populace off. All the screaming from the mountaintops you want to do will not change that fact.

The oil and gas candidate.

And I don't mind Hewitt. She's a solid conservative. I like her.

I think its very likely that their candidate will be a black democrat.

Outside of JBE for the last several years in statewide elections, a black democrat was running against the republican.

Furthermore, black democrats prohibitively outnumber white democrats in both chambers of the statehouse.

Trends are trends and Black democrats are itching to take over the party from white trial lawyers.

You want to improve the LA GOP?

Bring back closed party primaries in the spring where we can control candidate selection and provide finality resolution for problem Rs and allow for several months of cooling off to make base consolidation easier.

The current system we have allows them to escape that accountability and run into the mess that follows with just a month between the first round and runoff and voters still angry about the current crop of candidates.

Of all the names mentioned in this thread Garret Graves is the worst. He is the equivalent of Cassidy running.

Yeah, Graves' spine turned into jelly after the November elections. Disappointing. We need better!
