Apparently the phrase, "bad things come in 3's" is applying to LSU in the first week of the season as far as injuries go:

1 - Gio gets hurt going all-out on a flyball that he really had no business going after (was Crews' play)
2 - Doughty (one of our more experienced and better hitters that was gaining momentum) gets hurt on a freak accident celebrating a teammate's HR.
3 - Beck (one of our experienced relievers) said he felt tightness in his elbow after the ULL game and Mainieri says that is why he didn't pitch this past weekend.

As for Gio, Nolan Cain said this morning that they are going to try and get Gio jogging this week sometime and then reassess from there; but may still be a couple more weeks.

Doughty is having an MRI later today after a subluxation to his left shoulder. Hopefully there is no structural damage. If not, then maybe 1-2 weeks might be the time he is out. But hate that he loses the momentum he was building.

Beck is getting evaluated by doctors today, but Mainieri says "he is feeling better everyday".

Silver lining is that generally every season has injuries; so hopefully this means LSU is just getting theirs out of the way early.

On pitching:

Mainieri said earlier today that Javen Coleman will get the start against Nicholls on Tuesday night. Coleman allowed one run over 3.2 innings with seven strikeouts in his first appearance of the season.

UPDATE ON DOUGHTY:
quote:

Coach Paul Mainieri told @theadvocatebr tests revealed "no structural damage at all" in Cade Doughty's injured left shoulder, leaving LSU encouraged about the status of one of its best hitters.

Hellmers could probably win that award too. It’s the B12.

But he was there last year. He's not a newcomer.

If they're just handing it out to anyone, which it seems like they are. No reason not to nominate our players for another conference's awards.

I knew a kid in tee ball once who went a whole season without tripping or getting hit with a ball somehow in games or practice.
