Which direction? Nearly everything is about 20 min from lexington. I live in woodford county.
To OP you won't be disappointed. Lexington is a city that feels like a small town. Having lived in baton rouge and NO there's no part of lexington that makes me remotely uncomfortable. There's some cool areas of town, decent brewery scene, bourbon in every direction, and a decent food scene. Not a ton of ethnic food options but Louisville and Cincy are 1-1.5hrs away. People here are friendly and very southern for being so close to ohio and indiana. Housing is super reasonable. 350 will take you a long way in lex and the surrounding area. Just depends on how much you value land vs being close to town. Hamburg and nicholasville have blown up so there's a ton of traffic so those aren't my thing.
ETA the tailgating scene here is okay, but it's pretty damn refreshing to be able to park for free ten minutes from the stadium and tailgate right next to it. Good rivalry with louisville although the significance waxes and wanes. Outdoors stuff in every direction. Beautiful horse farms, creeks, distilleries, lakes, mammoth cave, RRG. 3 hours to the mountains in tenn, nashville, asheville. 5 hrs to ATL.

Someone mentioned Keenland. The Red mile is nifty too. That is where the trotters race. The track is across the street from the airport. When the big races are going, all of the rich guys park their jets on the grass along the runway, across the fence from the track, then walk across the road to the races. I don't have a jet, but I love to watch the trotters run. Th eland up thee is really beautiful - Kentucky Blue Grass, Horse barns and pastures enclosed with beautiful wood fences.
The houses look different. Nice, but IMO, not southern.
Interesting to go to the tobacco auctions, many of which are held there.
There is a Shaker settlement close by. No shakers there anymore (died out) but the buildings are beautiful to look at and the guides are knowledgeable.
How could a town with one of the main streets called Man-O-War be all bad.

FWIW, Keeneland is across from the airport, not the Red Mile.
However, the Red Mile is strategically located next to both a Sonic and Waffle House. If that doesn't sell you OP, I don't know of what will.
Nicholasville Rd is hell for traffic, same for Hamburg. Alot of new construction and all the dining and shopping you could want in Hamburg.
Lots of really nice, newer neighborhoods as well on the outskirts of the city on the county line and past.
The Legacy Trail is great for biking, it runs out to the Horse Park. They're supposed to be connecting it to West 6th brewery downtown, hell they may have already.
Anyway if you focus in on some areas and have questions or concerns holler at us.

Nah. I mean, compared to what yall get, which is absolutely zero, sure, we do get snow. Google search reveals we avg 10" snowfall a year. The US average is 28.
Reality is we usually get a few snows here, and they aren't more than an inch or two.
It's really just about the same as Knoxville weather wise.

What kind of riding? I can look into it and ask around. When I lived up there I rode saddlebreds but I’ve been down in Louisiana forever and I started riding h/j here. So, while I’m not helpful, I do know some who will be up there

One thing to budget for, local occupational tax. Many have found a way around some or all of it but Kentucky allows counties to collect an occupational tax. Varies from county to county and I am not sure what Fayette County’s occupational tax is but in Jefferson County it is 2.2% of GROSS for employees who work and reside in Jeff Co.

Mostly full-care pasture board that brings in to feed (needs daily meds), access to trails a plus. I don’t care if its english or western as long as care is top notch. Appx $500/month budget, can stretch

Why do so many people in Louisiana think Lexington is “in the hills?” Knoxville is in the mountains. Central Kentucky has a rolling landscape. No hills.

Be sure to put Natural Bridge State Park in Wolfe County on your list. While there, plan a picnic at the eastern end of the natural bridge formation.
You may be witness to another drunk from Ohio attempting to jump across a 15 foot crevasse to the top of a 200’ rock tower. So many have failed that it has gained a reputation as The Buckeye Leap. The screams are a bit offputting so you might want to leave the kids at home for this one.

Nope. You can find a bunch of houses to rent in great neighborhoods. I live in the Southland Area and it is becoming the next Chevy Chase.
Like everyone says, Lexington is an awesome city to live in.
