With the information that has been presented, I am not certain how it can be denied.

Yeah that’s an a-hole move to artificially inflate the price. No one in their right mind would defend that.

But that did absolutely nothing to limit, constrain or impact supply of generation. Therefore, this thread title is a lie regardless of how retarded this order is.

ETA: what the article should say is:

Texans getting price gouged because Biden admin ordered ERCOT to charge a minimum of 57x more than normal prices

Also, that $1,500 minimum probability didn’t matter since it hit $8000/MWh. But it’s still asinine.

Is ERCOT budget restricted? Serious question as I honestly don’t know. I ask because if they are forced to buy at the price gouging level, run out of funds, and subsequently are denied the legal means to produce excess power without running afoul of the DoE. then the argument that the Biden administration has culpability has merit (even if the thread title is salacious in nature).

My question is, why didn’t Abbot tell the DoE to go frick themselves? Is their something stopping him? Criminal penalties?

Secondly, where was Cruz in all of this. I could give a shite if he took his family to Cancun.
Allowing the DoE to do this to your constituency is unacceptable. That is provided that he knew. Still, if he didn’t know, why didn’t he know. These are questions that I would like to see asked and answered.

Another reason Cruz's arse should have been in Texas or DC fighting the order

ERCOT is nothing more than a traffic cop. They aren’t a regulated monopoly like traditional utilities. And I see your point and from the energy provider, downstream from ERCOT who has contracts in place with customers that got way upside down that argument is very valid. It was certainly a fricked up thing to do and we need to recognize it’s frickery for what it is.

But there was 0 available generation that wasn’t online. Hell once it hit $8k/MWh wholesale I’m sure they were duct taping broken shite back together to try and get some of that.

He should have, and I think he would have if he needed to.

ETA just to clarify this. He should have on the price issue and the whole emission restriction. I haven’t seen a break down of the MWh pricing through the crisis but the reality might very well be that every unit over that limit was so far over the set minimum that it didn’t matter. That’s purely speculation though and doesn’t make it any less fricked up.

Chilling at home texting friends and planning a trip. Btw I don’t give a frick what he did. He’s proven himself to be useless most of the time anyway but he’s still better than that frickstick Beto. Perry should have stepped up to the plate too, this is his wheelhouse .

I won’t assume that he knew, but I agree that if he knew...then why wasn’t he fighting it?

If he didn’t know, why didn’t he know?

All democrats should resign. Hiden must be impeached for killing people and being too stupid to allow ERCOT to generate much needed electricity so people would not freeze to death.
...and AOC, Green energy failed to generate and got so cold the windmills froze. When this happens the feds need to say generate whatever you need until the green energy comes available. This is common sense, but with democrats the only thing common amongst them is their stupidity.

But, if your local gas station owner raises his prices 10¢ after a hurricane to pay his employee overtime, it’s PRICE GOUGING.

It was done intentionally for profit?

Besides the impact on households, the cold is wreaking havoc on the energy industry itself. U.S. oil production has dropped by well over a million barrels a day, helping U.S. crude prices trade above $60 a barrel for the first time in more than year.

Once a state declares a state of emergency, any federal regulations should be suspended.

It’s that simple.

No. Supply tanked because the supply chain was disrupted at a time when demand was increasing. This isn’t some global conspiracy. Oil prices going up and that $8k/MWh are just what commodity prices do, react to supply demand economics.

So let me get this straight, even without the Paris accord we’ve been lowering our green house pollution for over a decade while other countries haven’t don’t shite - what’s up France, you bastards. Not to mention the two absolute giants in India and China.

And now we needed to fire up some plants to keep Americans warm and some dickhead says sorry, you gotta get ripped off first?

There is plenty of blame to go around. The biggest/only culprit - government.

LIES

“In an order that Huizenga signed just before 8 p.m. on Feb. 14, the Energy Department gave ERCOT permission to exceed the pollution limits for the requested period, but with language warning ERCOT to keep generation to what was absolutely necessary to curtail the emergency.”

Except this is a LIE so maybe we should hold those who are really to blame responsible instead of using every tragedy to further divide the country like that’s patriotic.”
