2021 Ford F-150 generator option coming in handy

One of the most remarkable aspects of Ford's new F-150 is the option to equip it with a generator to power tools (or blenders or TVs). Ford's decided that it can use this neat trick to help folks down in Texas who are suffering without power after winter storms caused widespread outages all over the state.
According to a report published Thursday by Automotive News, Ford has asked dealers in Texas to loan out their stock of F-150 PowerBoost hybrid models -- some 415 trucks in all -- to help homes and businesses. It's even altered its loaner program to make that process more straightforward.

Randy Jones, 66, a retired refinery worker from the town of Katy, outside Houston, and the owner of a 2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid truck with Pro Power onboard, generated envy on social media after posting images of how he's using his pickup to power his home and help neighbors during the blackout affecting millions in the Lone Star State.
"The truck gave us light at night, TV access to catch the news and weather. It helped give us a little bit of heat and a good pot of coffee."
"We have hurricanes down here more than freezes. We went through two hurricanes just a few months ago," Jones said. "I bought the truck specifically because of the generator for my own safety. I'm happy I bought it. Some of my neighbors are too, because they could charge their cellphones and iPads off my power supply."

what are the financing terms?

How likely are dealers going to loan out their brand new $80k trucks? LMAO

Very, if Ford offers to compensate them. And Ford should because this is incredible publicity.
I had no desire for an F-150 until today. Now I'm ready for 84 months same as cash financing and an extended warranty.

Same here. I want one this weekend

I had no idea this was even an option. I'll be looking into this for sure when I get my next car in a few years. Having a generator built into my automobile is a huge benefit to myself.

With 2kW?
Go buy a $1000 Honda inverter and toss it under your bed cover. It’ll save you 36 months of financing and outlive the Ford.

Dude spent 40K on a truck when he should have spent 20K on a truck and 20k on a whole home generator.

The 2021 hybrid’s onboard generator “gives you the ability to use your truck like a mobile generator” that can produce up to 7.2 kW of power, according to Ford.

Its sadly all about the publicity. They are paying over 600 bucks per vehicle which cold have been used to actually buy generators and given to residents to keep.
Whats worse is the article referenced using a locomotive to power Texas' grid the way some small town in Canada did. What they did not mention is that the locomotive could only produce 375 kilowatts of power. This is about 1/8 what a single modern windmill can produce. The locomotive could only power city hall and a few buildings and had to be derailed and drug trough town to connect to city hall.

Now, if only government officials down there would take a lesson from Boucherville, Quebec, and get some diesel locomotives connected to the grid to act as giant generators. That's some serious juice.

Reliability, quiet, ease of use, and 30 gallons of fuel capacity. The hybrid 2.4-kW system will run for 85 hours on a full tank of gas at maximum load of 2,400 watts. The 7.2-kW system will go for 32 hours under the same max load conditions.

Especially when it looks like the truck will keep starting to charge the on board battery. Still a v6 gas engine. Maybe in desiel would be worth it

Couldn't I just pay less than $80k for a new truck and have a $10k whole house genny installed instead?

inverters are quiet.

4-5 cans filled up... yes its easy but not worth bragging about imo.

Seems like its chugging gas quiet a bit compared to an inverter generator.

Truth! I have a pair of eu2000 generators that are 11 years old and have hundreds of ours on them.
