I watched that show with Troy Landry a couple of weeks ago and they were in the Louisiana swamp catching pythons. I was shocked. They caught several large ones. I'm just wondering if there are really pythons in the swamp? With this reality tv stuff, you never know what is real and what is made up!

The show I watched was supposedly in the Louisiana swamps because Troy was shocked that they had made it that far from the Florida Everglades.

Saw a one eyed python one time he was short but dang he was thick!!!
They in Florida baw,, if that show is anything like the aligator show then it’s a lot of staged shots and I would guess “recatching” of snakes in each episode.

A few years ago a video surfaced of a large adult python off of highway 182 in raceland. Cops said they went to look for it and could t find it but they believed it was either a recent escapee or had been living in the area since escaping they weren’t sure which. They did say they didn’t believe there was any kind of breeding population I will say this it’s feb in Cut Off and I am still picking bell peppers planted last spring. This has been going on for at least the past 3 years straight so I know the weather seems to be staying warmer during winter for the most part so I wouldn’t count on our cold keeping them down.

Edit to add link to video Massive Snake in Louisiana

In the 1970’s one was killed near Krumbhaar Subdivision in Houma.

Two rabbit hunters killed it,Bruce Pellegrin was one OT the hunters.

The Ward 7 Hunting Rodeo was going on down Little Caillou. The brought the snake into the club where the old guys were drinking beer and playing bourre and dropped it at their feet. Asked them if they had a snake category because they had the winner.

I think it was an escapee and was maybe 10 or 12 feet long.

That thing is huge! I sure hope they don't start showing up on the Gulf Coast, because that could totally destroy a lot of species and totally disrupt the eco system!

This is a true story. I have an old picture from the Houma Courier of Bruce and two other guys holding the snake, but I can't find it.

I read an article awhile back that the Burmese pythons in Florida are interbreeding with African Rock pythons which are more tolerant of cold weather than Burmese pythons. The fear is the hybrids may spread across the entire southern US.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they evolve to the point they are able to tolerate relatively cold weather.
I say this because I lived in Bull Shoals Arkansas in the 80’s and there were no armadillos.20 years later our friend that lives there was complaining about armadillos digging up her yard and flower beds.
Nuisance animals seem to have an uncanny ability to evolve and expand their range.

Pretty sure that is not how that would work.
