I’ll state I don’t frequent this board enough. I’ll also state I haven’t done a search either as I am sure this may have been covered already?

I am occasional gamer. I enjoy playing, when I play. I like mostly sport games, although my daughters like some of the shoot’em up games. I am excited about the future release of college football, even if EA is doing it.

We are now several months past release dates for both platforms. I initially was leaning to Xbox because of their purchase of some gaming studio works and their monthly Netflix pricing type model. Is this still the better option as it stands today?

FWIW, I have a PS/4.

If this appeals to you, then it is absolutely the better option. Game Pass is fantastic and will only get better once the Bethesda deal is finalized. Xbox seems focused on getting a Japanese developer now.

can't go wrong with either but i'll be damned if i'm gonna miss out on the PS5 exclusives. I'll catch the xbox "exclusives" on my gaming pc

Just get both. That's what I did.

Very little diffence between them.

Get PS5 if you feel like it has must have exclusives.

The Series X is worth it for Game Pass.

Honestly, from what you described, it sounds like the XBox is a better fit for you.

If you are looking for a Netflix like service then yes XBox is the better one for you. Playstation does have PSNow but it streams most of its content (unlike Xbox where you download the games) so you need good internet to play the games and I find it doesn't have nearly as good of a library. That being said I have a feeling Sony will at some point have a Gamepass service of their own but if Sony 1st party lineup isnt enough to get you to want to stick with Playstation then I doubt that matters to you. I have a Xbox Series X with Gamepass and love it. Eventually I upgrade my PS4 to a PS5 but for right now I'm really enjoying the Gamepass catalog.

The PS5 is just the better console all around. Unless you want game pass to open up a world shitty Indie games for you.

But get what you want. Your purchase won’t make or break the PS5’s clear dominance or make the Xbox’s failure any better.

Honestly, what are you xbox fanboys even playing? At this point, you don't even have a say so in the debate.

PS5 continues to get better as more and more ps4 next-gen updates are pouring in.

Xbox spent a lot of money and is still getting doggystyled by PS. You hate to see it.

I prefer Microsoft's exclusives, but for this gen, I'm going PS for the first time. Mainly b/c I converted my gaming PC into a SFF home theater/console, so I'll just play anything that isn't a Sony exclusive on that with my Xbox controller. I think with the rise in SFF home enthusiast PC builds more and more people are doing this. At least it's evident in my small circle. So it'll look like Sony is winning the console war, but ultimately I'm gaming on my PC more now.

As otheres have stated, it's really a personal preference at this point to determine which console is a better fit for you (Sony exclusives vs. Microsoft Exclusives, Game Pass vs. PS Now, do your friends play on a particular console, etc.).

I'm one of the people who owns both and one thing that bothers me is that the PS5 continues to outperform the Series X for certain games. The Series X has more powerful hardware, yet that difference is not actually showing up when comparing game performance side-by-side. The answer as to why this is occurring is...complicated (e.g. LINK), but it's also frustrating.

For example, I originally purchased Control: Ultimate Edition to play on the Series X because I thought it'd outperform the PS5 due to the Series X's more powerful hardware, but in a recent comparison, the game has more drops/freezes on the Series X. This is just one example, but I'm hoping the game devs figure out a better way to take advantage of the Series X hardware to use the (modestly) more powerful specs of the Series X.

If you don't care if you're playing last year's sports games, then go Xbox as it has EA play included plus tons of games for your daughters. For those saying there are a lot of shite games on Gamepass, yeah, there are, but there are also a lot of good games. I got in on the $1 deal and will probably keep it after it goes full price. I use it on both PC and Xbox.

The dick-measuring contest is stupid. Sony has their exclusives. Xbox has their gamepass. Nintendo has whatever they have. None are master race, so fighting over which one is better is asinine.

Most people still don’t have one and there aren’t any good games, so they might as well have not even been released yet.

I have $$ set aside in the event I so happen to randomly come across a XBX while shopping at Walmart, target, etc etc.

I was torn on debating to get a PS5 or XBX until Microsoft announced Flight Simulator 2020 will be coming to the XBX.

That’s really the main reason honestly.
