This article does not address the environmental impacts of mining and disposal of the batteries.

Institute for Energy Research - Environmental Impact of Lithium Batteries
Interesting that you use this as a source. Looking at their wiki page is rather illuminating LINK
quote:

IER is often described as a "front" for the fossil fuel industry;[by whom?] it was initially formed by Charles Koch, receives donations from many large companies like Exxon, and publishes a stream of reports and position papers opposing any efforts to control greenhouse gasses.
it's a pretty biased source in my opinion. I guess you can attack the BBC as being a biased source, but they don't have the monetary incentive to lie like Institute for Energy Research does.

We do not have the electrical capacity for the amount of electric cars this knuckle frick administration wants.

BTW.. do you know how you make electricity.... natural gas, nuclear and formerly coal.

So let’s kill fracking which makes natural gas low so we can have our electricity bills skyrocket.

These people are too stupid to breathe the same air as the rest of us.

This idiot is trying to make the entire federal fleet into electric cars.

It’ll be interesting to see how they handle a bunch of rural operations like the Bundy ranch or that outpost in Oregon if you have to go 100 miles away to charge for 8 hours.

It's not about killing oil, it's about stopping drilling in the US. Democrats want to stop drilling because they get rich buying oil from Saudi Arabia, Russia, and Iraq. Republicans like Bush and Cheney want to keep drilling in the US because they get rich from their buddies in the US energy sector.

The cost of battery pack replacements is outrageous and that does not include labor.
Hurricane rains, high water and floor pan mounting of batteries is asking for trouble.

Normal car batteries have about 60% of expected life in south LA in my experience.

Does the same or similar hold true for these batteries?

If Elon Musk says there’s not enough electrical power to replace fossil fuel engines, I believe him.

What facts do you want to dispute from the article. These mining issues are real and not being addressed.

The mining issues are very similar to why people are against the pebble mine in alaska for gold. Even the Trump Administration was against the pebble mine because of the environmental damage it would cost.

You may not like the source of that article but those are the impacts of mining for these minerals to make batteries. Whether it’s for lithium or gold mining has real environmental issues on a large scale. Especially in countries with limited regulation.

hydrogen from water

Simple process.
You can just pump a current through water.
However, much more energy (required) than what you recover.

The dream would be a metal catalyst(abundant metal) which would suit these needs.

That catalyst has not been found.

Generally d8 metals(platinum, palladium...) work well.
But, obviously cost and scalability make that impossible.

Yup, and every one of their pals has a Gulfstream. Not there is anything wrong with that except the hypocrisy.

You're focusing on the big picture and not what's coming out the tailpipe. You're doing it wrong.

Speaking of electric cars.

Been thinking about getting a used Nissan Leaf or a Mitsubishi i-miev. Not because I'm against fossil fuels, but because I'd like to go a while without having to deal with gas stations. My travel range is within a 15 mile radius.

They don't want you to purchase an electric car. Mercedes and Tesla are revolutionizing the auto industry in terms of self-driving cars. It's going to become bigger than we are thinking right now. You won't own your car...they want you to ride in your robo-taxi!

Then have millions of electric cars in the Ford/dodge/Chevrolet parking lots ready for consumers to buy to get on the road! If not then keep the flow of oil going!!!!

And how do you or they suppose we pay for them? Millions will be without jobs if oil is killed completely.

Also good luck making them when juat about every part has some type of petroleum product or byproduct.
