BATON ROUGE, La - After a record year for homicides in Baton Rouge and another record month in the making, the Mayor has introduced her latest tool in the fight against crime, a telephone.
Last week at a press conference downtown Broome announced that thanks to the Baton Rouge Police Department's newly formed "Telephone Reporting Unit," citizens will now be able to use a telephone to actually call and speak to the police to report "non-violent" crimes, in real-time. "This is a huge step forward from running out into the street and screaming for help like we used to do before we had phones," said the Mayor.
Broome asks that anyone needing to report a "violent" crime in Baton Rouge save everyone some time and just call the Coroner directly.
