Thought Scott W. Would supervise O’s hires

With O’s recent terrible track record hiring assistants I felt Scott W. Would step up and not let O embarrass the athletic department again. Certainly Scott had to be a part of the hiring process this time. If O is only a glorified cheerleader then who the hell is helping him make the most important decisions that the football program has to make.? Certainly Scott knows that he cannot give O complete control to make these picks.? Can he.?

Seen it from the same ones reporting everything else that woody has been in charge of all of this.

You’d think the Athletic Director would take an interest in the process being used to fill a high profile vacancy in the schools cash cow sport. Wondering wtf it is he does all day over there.
Local media will call out O but not a peep about Scott is infuriating
Newsflash Scott: YOU CAN INTERVIEW MORE THAN ONE CANDIDATE AT A TIME!
Also your HC doesn’t have to go on radio every week to give the whole football world the inside scoop on what you’re thinking and doing behind the scenes.

Not an ADs job to hire coordinators, a coach should

When the head coach of your cash cow has performed so miserably hiring assistants it is incumbent upon you as AD to help him unless you want him to fail so you can put your stamp on selecting a new head football coach . Which is it .?

He shouldn’t force a guy on the coach but he absolutely should be involved in the process, such as communicating with agents of the top candidates to see if there are potential contractual stumbling blocks. Or to call the HC of the NFL team you’re hiring from to request permission to interview.
The football coach should coach football and not handle the administrative details.

He is but O still has input. They're both bad at hiring assistants. He's not just going to handcuff O so badly he pisses him off. It's more of a mutual agreement. They're both shitting the bed just like they did with Pelini. Woody is quickly turning into a worse hire than Alleva.
The better question you should be asking is if O is a glorified cheerleader as you said why did this admin sign off on that contract? The Pelini contract was ridiculous too for somebody NOBODY was calling to come coach their team so now you put yourself in a hole during Covid-19 year. Every DC will expect about as much as Pelini or see that as an insult. They're going to use LSU for leverage when you pay top money like that.
tl;dr Woody is definitely involved but probably not like you think.
I don't care if you win a NC or not a coach who must have great assistants around him like Miles/O shouldn't be getting the money O is getting on top of his ridiculous buyout( ). That money should be used for elite top flight possibly NFL type coordinators. LSU shite the bed on O and Pelini's contract. It was getting caught up in the moment on a high of last season but not objectively looking at it from a business point. The main reason is they're the biggest risk HCs to put your program in a hole when their fate is dictated on how good their top assistants are so you can't financially risk that. It's not like anyone is coming to buy Orgeron out let's be real.

Then why are you watching? That’s the goal here and O got us one and will get us another. He’s worth every dime he’s making

I'm saying from a business point of view them dumping the money they did on Pelini and O wasn't smart. O deserved a raise but to get what he did? C'mon. Same with Pelini. The dude was making like 100k or something before getting offered a whopping millions? There was nobody calling him it wasn't like he was a hot commodity. That was just them bending over with no negotiation skills.
They couldn't predict Covid but damn was that a bad business decision any way you slice it. And if the word is correct LSU has a lower budget right now on the coaching hire. This may be another reason why coaches are not coming here because we're not paying as much as we usually do.

Its almost at the point where I'll be happy to take Alleva back.

quote:Yes he can, just like every other AD would. If you can’t trust the coach to put together his own staff then he shouldn’t be the coach. Not to mention if you pick the wrong assistants for him then you have no grounds to fire him for under performing.

That Woodward not only allows this but then apparently does little or no follow up on the back end is mind numbing
Posted on 1/19/21 at 8:55 pm to Draconian Sanctions
Yes, that's the brain numbing part. Woody puts the keys of the program in the hands of T-Derek.
Posted on 1/19/21 at 8:56 pm to Mudminnow
No, O has the keys and handed them to T-Boy.
