Off the top of my head: An AD shouldn't publicly flop on every candidate at a job like LSU
So Woodward is supposed to hold a gun to these guys heads until they sign the contract?
Maybe they all realized O was a lunatic and decided they didn't want the job.
You people spew shite that you know nothing about.

Orgeron is making himself look more and more like the ogre a lot of people said he was. Good God. Every other school gets their guy ASAP. O just keeps spewing stupidity.
Not defending O here, but Alabama was turned down by boatloads of coaches before Saban took the job. That was even after Rich Rod took the job. So who knows how it turns out. But if I were O and LSU I would keep the search quiet as can be until pen hits paper.

Clearly O is identifying good candidates. We all agree that Freeman and Nielsen were solid home run hires. It didn't work out when it came time to sign the contract. That's not necessarily on O. I also wonder if the offers are maybe a bit more conservative than they would have been a few years ago given the financial impact of 2020 on the athletic department.
Posted on 1/19/21 at 12:46 pm to spslayto
I get that. But seriously, what kind of crap is O putting out there that coaches are turning down a DC role to stay a position coach elsewhere?

O didn't leak shite, he specifically said it wasn't a done deal after it leaked and he was asked.
So you say, "We're going through our process of interviewing candidates. We'll let you know when something is official."

He is 0 ability to close deals on any relatively sought after assistant coach. Just fricking make it happen. It's not an excuse to say "Oh well the Saints forced his hand" or "Oh Freeman wanted to be closer to his family" bullshite. He needs to stop taking it up the arse and make something happen.
I bet you wouldn't take the job either if your husband said he wasn't moving south. I also bet you wouldn't know the first thing about getting a guy out of his contract with his current employer. But, please. Continue posting so we all know what a fool you are and to not take anything you say seriously on here.

Do people really think Woodward is leading this search?
Scott's the AD, but it's a team effort. He and O haven't been able to seal the deal.

Lol, it is a head coaches job to hire the coordinators, not the AD. The AD just works the contract amount.

In your infinite wisdom, please explain why Woodward looks "not great" in this. Go into detail as to what he has done to "not look good". I await your detailed report
He signed off on offering and agreed to an insanely stupid contract for Bo Pelini. And that is not hindsight being 20/20. It was stupid the day it was offered. One disastrous season later LSU had to eat the remaining two years of that contract that should have NEVER been offered in the first place.
With that as the jumping off point, one has to believe the AD is (or at least should be) heavily involved in hiring what may turn out to be the second highest paid person at the school (even more than the men's basketball coach). I can't imagine they are willing to, for a second straight year, grossly overpay for a DC who doesn't have a tremendous market for his services. Especially considering the goodwill earned from 2019 has all but evaporated and the department as a whole is dealing with the single greatest loss of revenue maybe in the history of the department.
I cannot imagine Orgeron has simply been given a blank check and told to "hire whoever you want". But we are now over a month past the firing of Pelini (a decision that Woodward no doubt knew was going to be made WELL before it actually became official) and LSU still hasn't hired a DC. The waited for Freeman's season to end...thought they had him...then didn't. Ok. That happens. So then they wait another two weeks for the Saints season to end, only to miss out on the second guy. If O is fully leading the search, then you would at least think the AD would want to know what the plan is on making the hire considering the hire will be one of the highest paid coaches at the school. If not, then there seems to be no real consensus among the department as a whole as to which direction they want to go.
It HAD to be known for a while that Pelini was going to be let go. But the further along we get it becomes apparent there wasn't a well thought out plan of attack outside of settling on a few targets and waiting until they were available to try to get them without some degree of assurance they would. For a job that from the outside looking in seems like it would be in high demand it seems no one wants it.

Either LSU didn’t want to pay whatever the price was to get him out of the contract, or he wasn’t so sold on coming here that he wouldn’t pay it himself.

O just can't help himself.
Yeah that's not on Woodward.
Orgeron needs to shut the frick up. Now.

Didn't Freeman and Nielsen agree to take the job but the contract couldn't be completed due to getting outbid or some contractual obstacle?

Everything will be OOOKKKKAAAYYYY!!

Yes, this is more on Woodard than O. I thought Woodard was supposed to be the guy who was great at getting coaches he wants signatures on contracts?
Instead he is looking like a 3rd rate AD, that has no clue what he is doing and can't close deals with anybody.
Woodard is the money man, so show somebody the money and get their damn john hancock on paper for Christ's sake.

Seriously doubt we were outbid on Freeman by Notre Dame. We pay more than they do for every thing and every one.
Freeman also said yes to us, told his former players he was going to LSU, and didn't give away that he was leveraging us at all. So we didn't really have a chance to fight back when we thought it was over. Woodward was not going to let money stop us from getting Freeman. He was their #1. He just chose a more stable head coach in a part of the country he already lives in.
