This is such a bad look for the Saints...they are subsidized by the state, use the Dome rent free etc. For sure some state big shot is going to remind them the State is doing them a huge so they can do the State's flagship university a solid.

He would have more responsibility and get more pay. It is a promotion, period. None of the other bullshite you mentioned is at all relevant to it being a promotion or not.

All that is fine, the problem is that shite shouldn’t be leaked to the media. This is all shite that should be worked out behind closed doors. Leaking something out like this just makes the saints look bad over what 1 million dollars? They currently look like an organization that doesn’t want to let assistants move up and on to better positions, they are losing goodwill with fans in their own state by picking a fight in the media with the state school. The saints shouldn’t just bend over but they should have a better understanding of PR and control leaks better. I blame the saints on the leak as it’s their media person that leaked this.

I’m pretty sure that a sizeable portion of the Saints fan base is first and foremost LSU fans. If the Saints block this, we should boycott them

Some of y’all are just plain nuts. Coaches and organizations in any league expect to lose quality assistants all the time! You think they want to hire mediocre people that nobody else wants!!! Good head coaches are good for many reasons, one of which is they hire quality assistants repeatedly because they loose them repeatedly for God’s sake. This isn’t about the coaches, it’s about the lawyers

some reason people think the Saints should bend over backwards for LSU because they share a state.

Well it could bite the Saints in the arse, and give people who have almost had it a reason not to renew season tickets. Now a lot of Saints fans may not be LSU fans, but I bet a good bit of ticket holders are from Louisiana, and have a interest in both teams.

Lol. The fan assumption is very wrong first of all.

This would be a really bad look for the saints not letting an assistant move to a position he wants. On brand for them though considering they suck at pr. The franchise was dumb enough to consult on child rape cover up using their emails

That's because the owner told them to do it. I want to see those emails which they've been able to protect up till now. They need to be released.

Yall really think this is the case huh?

This kind of thing happens all of the time in the NFL with all teams.

So far America is a free enterprise system. There is no such thing as a person not being able to change jobs. Contracts are negotiated every day.

Sean McVay literally just coached against his former offensive coordinator in the divisional round. That guy is likely heading to the Super Bowl.

His other offensive coordinator is coaching the Heisman winner and ROY contender.

And now his DC is heading across town.

If Payton is really butthurt about Brady, then he only has the mirror to be mad at..

The NFL for years had a rule that allowed teams to block their own assistants from being interviewed for coordinator positions and it happened frequently. The rule only changed last year.

It's amazing how many people don't know this. The 49ers blocked the Browns and Packers from interviewing Mike LaFleur last year. He just now was able to leave to be OC for the Jets with Saleh going there.

Mass ignorance/overly emotional LSU fans in this thread.

First of all, the GM is the one that enforces contract language. Not Sean Payton.

Second, all of those guys got promotions to Head Coach in the NFL. Even if the Saints wanted to, they wouldn't block it.

Sean Payton says ALL OF THE TIME that he likes when his assistants get promotions elsewhere because it shows they are doing something right.

In this particular case, Nielsen had contract language that allows the Saints to block this. They wouldn't be able to block a move to DC or HC in the NFL most likely.

But here, they can. So they are going to use that leverage to get something they want: a contract provision.

This isn't a big deal and its smart business on Loomis's part. You people are crazy.
