Don't forget America West, Southern, and Piedmont.

Pan Am was also lost in December of 1991. The only airline the world has ever known to be described as an institution.

TWA would last another 10 years and get absorbed by AA in December of 2001.

I really want to do the PanAm experience in Los Angeles.

Why did Panam end up shutting down, not really familiar with their history.

They started losing money in the mid 80s and relied heavily on international routes, many of which were facing declining demand due to economic factors and terrorism. Their airplanes were old and competition was running the show on domestic flying. Fuel prices went up and then the Gulf War happened. They dried up.

When he wasn't conspiring to assassinate the President, David Ferrie was one of Eastern Airlines finest pilots.

My dad flew DC9's and 727's for Eastern

Special place in hell for Frank Lorenzo and Carl Icahn. TWA would still be around if Icahn hadn't gutted everything of value from them in the 80s.

Tower was mainly a charter operator, but I forgot AirCal and Northeastern.

I remember going to some exhibit sponsored by Eastern Airlines at Magic Kingdom (Orlando) as a kid. Saw it there one year, then gone the following year.
Yeah, I’m old.
Yeah, I’m old.

Those legacy airlines that operated in profit protected government regulated times had a hard time with deregulation. Carter deregulated airlines.
I remember having to fly into the old Atlanta airport on Delta and walking for seemingly miles to catch my connection on Eastern. Looking back on it was really insanity.

Eastern was great to fly. Beat Delta hands down.

Deregulation and Frank Lorenzo killed Eastern.
