The Blue Meatball is legend....... For anyone interested in the history and undoing of most these airlines, I recommend reading “Hard Landing”.

I would recommend 747: Creating the World's First Jumbo Jet and Other Adventures from a Life in Aviation

Competition does that to those who can't compete once the government protection of rates and routes is gone.
irony is that the airlines that were big and strong prior to Kahn's "experiment," are the ones that are left standing today

Cool didn’t know that. Guess they were strictly commercial crop dusting when it began in Monroe. If I’m not mistaken I think the original plan began in Macon, GA but they started in Monroe, LA.
They went from crop dusting in Monroe/MS delta, (hence the name) then Macon Ga, and air mail, then to passengers from Dallas/Shreveport/Monroe/Jackson. They later extended the route from Jackson to Meridian, Tuscaloosa, Birmingham and Atlanta.

Delta is probably the best of the major US airlines now, but they were ruthless when it came to buying and gutting competitors like NWA.
Ask most airline pilots and they will tell FedEx or UPS are the best after last year.
