Watched this last night for the first time and really enjoyed it. If you want to watch a kind of campy horror movie that's pretty well written, (Frank Darabont wrote the script) check it out.

Filmed in Abbeville, which is kinda cool.

I don't think I've seen this in over 30 years. I remember enjoying it though.

Johnny Drama's best movie as the lead IMO.

My dad rented it when I was a kid and it scared the crap out of me, I stopped watching it after the first death.
Very well done movie, the whole thing feels pretty real considering how silly a premise it is.

It’s definitely fun. Although I also haven’t seen it in about 25 years or more.
The original isn’t bad either.

Mike Stoklasa of RLM mentioned in their latest re:View that he did some Google Earth location scouting of Abbeville.
So, if you're from Abbeville, you might be interested to know that some YouTube celebrity Google stalked your hometown.

I like the original better. Made in 58 starring Steve McQueen in his feature film debut and Aneta Corsaut who later played Helen Crump on "The Andy Griffith Show".

Also he doesn't know how to pronounce Abbeville

Yes, be sure to let him know how to properly pronounce Abbeville. I think Mike mainly uses the official RLM twitter account now (twitter.com/redlettermedia), so you can reach him there.
How do you pronounce Abbeville, anyway?

I saw it and alien & aliens for the first time in the same night, as a kid.
The night sky was never the same to me after that.

Movie is set in California and filmed in Louisiana.
I’m neither Californian or Louisianan. Are high school football games played in the day time in some parts of the country?

I lived in Abbeville (Abby-ville) and worked for the local paper and got an up close look at the making. Nice little Sci-Fi/horror flick. Cool, cute actors. Good special effects. Still have a piece of the “frozen blob” as a souvenir.
Learned that movie making is a slow, rather boring process.
They pumped nearly a million dollars into the local economy and kept residents awake for a few nights with gunfire and explosions. And it stayed on schedule and finished on time.
As for the football scenes, it was played as both teams’ LHSAA-sanctioned Spring football games and pitted Abbeville High vs. Vermilion Catholic for the first (and perhaps only) time ever. Both teams took the game seriously except for when certain scenes were orchestrated for the film.
The whole town’s football fan base turned out for the game played at VCHS.
Also, the early ravine and motorcycle jump scenes were filmed in California. Everything else in Abbeville.
The only complaint was they had to severely trim some big oak trees in front of the courthouse for the closing scenes.

I saw that movie in the theatre that used to be in the same parking lot as Murphy’s and IHOP just north of LSU campus. The bad side of campus in other words. At that point, the theatre was $1 discount movies and the audiences were usually boisterous. I remember lots of yelling at the screen but everyone had a good time.

Still got my "frozen" Blob crystals in a mason jar. I put that in my gravy like a Blob bouillon cube.

It's not the greatest thing ever, but it's a really well done movie that most people have never given the credit it deserves. I think it's a classic 80's horror flick that is a lot better than many other 80's horrors that get more praise.

I used to watch that all the time as a kid, along with Killer Klowns from Outer Space and Critters.
