Is this the most divided our nation has been in your lifetime?

I’m on the way younger side, is this the most bitter time in our society y’all have experienced? Is this different compared to other “troubling times”?

Yes and I go back to the '70s
ETA: Its not simply the division. It's the rabid virulence of the left toward anyone who disagrees with them on anything.

Yeah I’m to the point where I can’t share a room with a libtard. The hatred has grown deep.

Yeah I think we all have had our political preferences over the years but for some reason these days, we all believe we're entitled to our preference and we treat it like it's life and death.
This is seen on both sides of the aisle. Not merely a liberal or conservative issue.

My Grandpa was born in 1926
He did homework by oil lamp & pumped water from a well
They used an outhouse
When they needed to go to town they took their horse named Nellie
He has seen a lot in his 94 years & said he never would have thought his country would be like torn apart this

I was born in the 70s but don't remember them, but I've never seen the country quite like this.
I think there were tense times in other decades but we just didn't have all of it shoved in our faces 24/7, so the likelihood of it boiling up was lessened.

Yes. I blame echo chambers.

White liberals hate blacks, hispanics, and conservatives. Conservatives hate white liberals, so yes.

The thing is all of this stuff we call "politics" is just a preference. And it's ok for you to pick one side or the other. But what's not ok really is to treat other Americans as though they're scum and not human just because we disagree with them. Again, this is done by both sides. Not finger pointing at any one side.

60’s was more divided. People aren’t being assassinated left and right. Kids aren’t being drafted. Black people aren’t third class citizens. Women aren’t second class citizens. College campuses aren’t rioting on a monthly basis.

Yes. Things got heated in the 60s with the Vietnam protests and assassinations, but people were mostly trusting of the media and the political rhetoric, for the most part, was not as divisive. People really need to chill now. I don't think people really understand how bad things can turn.

We have created a culture of financial entitlement, which has spawned a culture of political entitlement:
Racial preferences and set-asides
Safe Spaces
Hate Speech laws
Microagressions
A minority that is used to getting every demand, and a political elite that exploits them

I have memories going back to the 80’s - this is far more divided than I’ve ever seen it.

It feels like both sides are deeply and equally entrenched with no hope of seeing the other's side and meeting in the middle any longer.

Easily. I think you can trace the origins of the current era of hyper partisanship to the mid 90s and Newt Gingrich. He was the architect that started this.

Without question.
We are quickly approaching the tipping point and what that looks like remains to be seen.
