The best coach in Michigan history was from Ohio and got his start at coaching at OSU. If he wants a job in the B10, this has the potential to be his only big-time possibility for a while.

Minnesota, Wisconsin, Virginia Tech and Nebraska aren't better situations then what he has at Cincinnati now. If you are Fickell you buy your time dominating at Cincy until a big time job opens up like a Penn state, Oklahoma, Michigan ect...

He’s built a nice program at a Cincy and just pulled in one of the top classes in G5...at 44. The only 4 star in the class is a transfer. They just got shut out of any playoff consideration with a perfect record and didn’t even make 5th or 6th. That last bit was a fricking slap in the face from the committee. They sent a message- G5’s shouldn’t even bother. There is a ceiling at Cincy and he’s reached it.

If he were to win a conference title at any of the above schools, they go to the playoffs. He could even get at-large consideration with a great 1 loss season. Wisconsin and Minny have each been in playoff consideration recently. They may not be recruiting powers, but he could do better than 44 with the additional money and exposure available at P5 schools.

I’m sorry, but what Fickell has at built at Cincy isn’t better than a solid P5 situation. This is just not even close to being a true statement. The money and reach that program has just isn’t in the same class as a B10 or ACC program. It’s a more safe and stable situation, and that does have some value. Maybe he hangs out and waits to take two steps up the ladder rather than taking one step over the next two years.

However, you can’t be the hot name forever at the G5 level. I know Harsin just moved up, but he wasn’t a guy who was getting mentioned for P5 jobs anymore and he was not at the top of Auburn’s wish list. Josh Heuple’s name has fallen off the radar as UCF has come back to Earth a bit. It doesn’t take long to fall back down the pecking order and Fickell’s stock isn’t getting higher than what he hit this year. Norvell was set on leaving Memphis last year for the same reason. He knew that was his best shot to get the highest consideration and he took it.

Next off-season will be Fickell’s ideal opportunity. He and Campbell will be at the top of every list. Now Matt Campbell has a more solid situation because, even though it isn’t a top program, ISU is at least a P5 with the TV money and access to the playoff that comes with that. He can bide his time longer. Fickle is risking more staying put longer.

For normal people it would make you imagine the Griswalds. In Freemen’s case, it is probably solved in one simple question, “when do you need the private jet there?”

Can't freeman make a decision without a man holding his hand? I wouldn't let my friend decide my future and $$

LSU made a great offer. He has either discussed it or will discuss it with Luke Fickell, whom he trusts a great deal. I had one source told me that he’s be shocked if he’s not the DC. And another one tell me the same thing along the lines of what he told me before the Peetz hire. If Freeman isn’t the DC at LSU it’s because Fickell talked him out of it.

That's a bad sign for a few reasons.

To me, it’s a no brainer for him to come to LSU. He wants to be a HC- we got the dogs on defense to make him look really good. He comes in has a good year and gets a P5 job similar to Aranda. If we keep him for 2 even better. Let Corey Raymond soak up as much as he can in the next 12-24 months. Once freeman leaves promote Raymond to DC.

Random was right about Jimbo coming

He was right about there being talks. Obviously, he was wrong that he was coming...twice as I recall.

He also called the Cam Cameron hiring before anyone iirc.

Same thing. I think he was wrong in one year...then right the next.

The point is that Random pretty certainly knows people who would know things. But, NOTHING is done until it is done. Freeman was willing to come to LSU. But, he wasn't willing to accept the job he knew he'd be offered? I'm sorry, but that's not a good sign.

Best case scenario is he told LSU yes, but asked them to hold off on the announcement because of respect for Fickell and a promise that he'd give Fickell an opportunity to discuss with him before he took any job.

If that's the case, this will be quick. He'll go home, talk to Fickell right away, and then probably head back to LSU.

But, if this goes a day or so with no info, chances go below 50% IMO.

This is just not true

He’s already on the radar of ADs at Cincinnati. If he has success at here or ND he’d be on the short list for some P5 jobs.

So, how long does a discussion like that take with Fickle? A day?

I feel like if we hear anything today, it will be good news for the Tigers. If he talks with Cincinnati’s brass today and thinks it over this weekend, my confidence would decline. Not that LSU would be out of it that way but the longer this goes the better for Fickell and Cincinnati.

You can have whatever plan you want until that contract is offered and you see those zeros. LSU throwing big time money at this guy. Doesnt matter what they have "discussed", that goes out the window when that multi-million dollar raise is presented to you on a silver platter
