Safe to travel to Mexico (or internationally currently)?

Currently have a trip booked in Cozumel for five nights for February. Wife wants to cancel it, because she claims that you're forced to take a COVID test before you board a flight, and could potentially get "trapped" abroad for several weeks. This seems very unlikely to me..
I see a lot of folks are traveling abroad, have you seen anything like this? What risk are there?

Mexico doesn't require COVID tests for entry. That's a great reason to choose Mexico over other Caribbean destinations.
And, no, you aren't likely to get trapped. The US isn't going to stop flights to Mexico, because the virus is just as bad in the US as it is in Mexico.
There has been some talk that the US could follow Canada's lead and start requiring incoming passengers to take a COVID test, but there's nothing imminent on that.
In any case, why does your wife want to cancel now? There will be plenty of time to cancel later if necessary.

Went to Cabo before Christmas. Incredible, don’t cancel.

My brother is currently in Cozumel. He said it feels a million times safer than anywhere in the US as pretty much everything is outdoor dining and you don’t have the normal cruise crowds. They had no concerns around testing, but also we test occasionally before we see our grandparents so we are used to the process.
Said he felt comfortable at both airports on either end, but flew American due to a deal and said it sucked.

Are there temperature checks in airports currently? And if you had a fever could they prevent you from boarding and coming home?
I'm dying to unwind in Cozumel, my wife is having some anxieties about it.

Went to Mexico over Labor Day weekend and I also went over Thanksgiving. We had zero problems entering or exiting. You don't have to do anything upon arrival.
At the Cancun airport, when you leave, you have to fill out a COVID form asking where you've been and if you have any symptoms. As you walk to security there is a thermal scanner you walk by. I assume if you show a fever they will pull you to the side and question you but I didn't see any of that happening.
When you arrive back to the USA it's business as usual, no questions asked.
Basically, tell your wife to chill out. Everything will be fine and you will all have a great time.

Since Cozumel is an island, I’d say it’s pretty safe.
I talked to a good friend who retired to Puerto Vallarta today who said cartel activity is up nationwide. They’re taking advantage of the situation.
But... stay on the island. You’ll be fine.

This
Just got back from Mexico a couple days ago and all that was required on the way in was the form being filled out and passing by a thermal scanner on the way in before entering customs and immigration.
Same on the way out. Fill out the form and thermal scanner before going through security.

Like Bayou and Ash said, form on the way in and walking past a scanner. That area survives off of tourism, so I’m assuming that those processes are more of a security blanket to make people feel safer traveling.

I’m in Cozumel right now as I’m typing this. Was on Isla Mujeres the past four days as well. Everything in your post is 100% incorrect. Mexico is as easy as ever to travel to, enjoy, and exit. There are no new requirements either way.
Edit to add - yes there is a simple form you fill out at the Cancun or Cozumel airport that states you don’t have COVID symptoms. It’s a handful of basic questions.

I know a woman who went on a girls trip 3 weeks ago and 5 of them got covid, person I know already had it, and they all flew back home while sick.
They went to Cabo.

Damn you, lucky bastard. Does it still have that small town feel? We find out about that town from some show on the Travel Channel a year ago and my wife has been hellbound on going ever since.

Yes and no.
It's hard to find a parking spot but i never felt like it was crowded.
The main surf beach was somewhat crowded (crowded like playa norte in Isla, not like Gulf Shores or Destin) but the streets and shops are not.
But we rented a house right outside of town that had it's own private beach and staff. We would drive into town everyday, walk around, eat street food, have beers on the beach, piddle around, then head back to our house.
Gorgeous area, great town, highly recommend.

That’s exactly what we’d do there.
Thanks!

I can email you the place we stayed if you want to share your email address. It was awesome.

Unlike in Houston going thru immigration. Not a question was asked nor any thermal cameras. Easiest customs ever and right after Thanksgiving.
