Who would run RPO in our offense? Max is a pretty middling looking athlete for the RPO. He can run it but he won't be great at it. Finley is a giant plodding log out there no way he could run it.
Don't mind the hire btw.

Dude you don’t have to be a running QB to run an RPO. It’s a read, not an offense
Posted on 1/2/21 at 11:03 am to deuce985
RPO is a run pass option, you're thinking the read option. They're different.

Yeah let's not hire any OC that won't base their offense around TJ Finley's mobility

Max is fine running the rpo.
Like another poster said you can always hand it off. It's just the qb watching the lb or safety to see if they bite or not.

You morons still don’t get it.
Run = hand off to the running back
Pass = pull the ball and throw it
Option = qb makes the read to do either of the above. There is no qb run in the RPO, unless you count the one time Burrow had a run/pass option on a qb draw late in the game vs Bama last year.

RPO isn’t the read option. Geez folks.

RPO has nothing to do with the QB running it.

One day everyone will finally understand you don’t need a running QB to run the RPO offense but apparently today is not that day.

So many people misunderstand the RPO

Max isn’t going to break long runs like Justin Fields in the RPO game.. BUT Max has plenty enough talent for the RPO to be very effective.
The QB in an RPO usually is making a read to decide whether or not to hand the ball off or throw the ball. And many times has a third option to run it himself.
When the QB does keep and run it himself, a simple 5-7 yards per run is plenty for the RPO to be effective and to keep the defense honest. And with the right reads, 5-7 yards per run should be fairly easy for Max.

Holy crap, we have some idiot fans
How do you not know what RPO is if you are a CFB fan
Brennan was 2nd in the sec in rpo% before he got hurt and is not very mobile
TJ’s % of RPO plays was way hire than Burrow’s last year

Jesus fricken Christ, here we go with people on this board who do not understand the RPO. Smdh

The RPO has been around for like a decade now, and somehow, people that watch football every weekend still don't know what it is.

As noted by others, you don't need to be a great running QB to run the RPO. But consider that Max has had almost no collegiate body and speed development because of Covid. Give him a year, plus a spring practice season, and with the right OC, we might have a gem.

Someone doesn’t know what an RPO is.

Just fyi hes not talking about Read Option where the QB pulls it from the RB and keeps it. RPO has some of those principles but its mainly either handing to the RB or pulling it and throwing it.
