Four drs have now told us the ER isn’t necessary. There just giving her a bunch of fluids right now because the fever took a lot out of her and her heart rate is elevated.

Heart rate can go up from fever and from dehydration so they are giving her fluid

Call the Doc office (or OB/GYN may be better) and speak to the on call person. They may advise you to go on to the ER. A lot of things can cause fever in pregnancy and some can create issues for both Mom and baby. It may not be COVID-19 but could be something else.

At urgent care now. Once again no one is concerned with the fever. Covid results should be back in about ten minutes. She said it’s not a UTI Just got the results. Positive for Covid

Praying for you, the wife, and the baby. Scary situation but it sounds like y'all are handling it properly and I'm sure she's going to be fine. Take care.

Seriously learned something today. I always thought the mom's temp was the same as the babies. In your case, a pound or so baby. 102 seems high. Scruffy? Thoughts?

You wouldn’t go to the ED with the general population at 23 weeks pregnant. You would go to triage which is on labor and delivery. Ed will send anyone over 20 weeks to triage, but I’m glad you’re getting fluids since that was my initial concern with such a high temp. Unfortunate thing about urgent care is that it can literally be staffed by anyone: someone who quit residency after a year, a second year resident moon lighting, a fam Med doctor that trained at a small facility. In the future, would recommend going to your OB’s hospital. Triage’s generally have very little wait and you will be evaluated quickly. For transparency sake, I am an obgyn.

Slag likes to follow me board to board and insult me.
So thank you for your explanation of the open and closing door. Which is ‘banging.’

Chucky, any further words of wisdom/reassurance for those of us with pregnant wives in the time of Covid?
Posted on 12/29/20 at 8:07 pm to Pettifogger
Not so much different than the general population. We were originally concerned that preggos would be more susceptible due to their immunocompromised state, but hasn’t necessarily been shown to be true. Most patients do well, which I hope for you CE Tiger, but the ones that get hypoxia go down hill quickly due to decreased baseline respiratory reserve secondary to the pregnant uterus. Masks, wash hands, the general stuff. If you she does have access to the vaccine, take it. It’s not a live vaccine.
