Starting Christmas night my pregnant wife (23 weeks) has had fever that spikes to 103-104 every six hours. We did a rapid Covid test Sunday that came back negative but today she lost her smell so I’m guessing it was a false negative and this is Covid. She hasn’t left the bed in four days , chills start and fever spikes and then comes down after about 15 minutes (consistent with when she can take Tylenol) . No other symptoms (cough or congestion)

Can’t get in to see her Dr until Thursday and I don’t think there’s anything that can be done at the ER but I’m starting to freak out : any (non OTish) advice?

Did she wear her mask?

Kidding, hope all turns out OK.

How is her BP?

Has her doctor chatted with her about Preeclampsia in the past?

I'd try to find someone that can see her today - including her OBG/YN. If they aren't available now, go to the ER.

Fever during pregnancy isn't something to mess around with.

If she is pregnant and has 104 fever, take her arse to the ER.

Call her doctor. I'm sure he can give better advice than you will get here.

Why do you think this? They can admit her if there is a need to protect the fetus.

The Drs don’t seem concerned about the fever . Just told her about how much Tylenol to take.

OP needs to call the wife's doctor. If he can't get someone from that practice to see her today or answer the phone, they need to go to the ER.

Yeah, as much as I like this site I can't believe people come here with this. I can't believe you can't get some attention before Thursday.

Don’t have to see HER doctor to get another covid test. Given the symptoms, I’d probably hit that up and then follow their directions from there. Clinic, or hospital in your area should be able to help.

Baby seems fine, hes moving and kicking like usual. The fever drops which is why I’m not rushing her to
The ER. Even for the Covid test she didn’t have fever.

Call the Doc office (or OB/GYN may be better) and speak to the on call person. They may advise you to go on to the ER. A lot of things can cause fever in pregnancy and some can create issues for both Mom and baby. It may not be COVID-19 but could be something else.

My wife and I went through this barely 5 months ago. Fever (accompanied with high BP) at that stage in pregnancy is a sign of preeclampsia with severe features.

You need to see a doctor.

For what it's worth, it involved my baby, I'd want to be sure. And the rapid tests don't have the greatest accuracy rate.

Did you talk to her OB? Or just some folks you know who are doctors? Her OB is going to know her specific details that may/may not put her at risk for other issues.

Hopefully it's just Covid or some other cold.

Because fever in pregnant women can be a sign of other issues. You should get her OB on the phone if you can.
