You're saying Houston has any kind of unique character? Maybe if you are happy sitting in traffic for 45 minutes and paying $50 in parking
Traffic and expensive parking mean a city doesn’t have unique characteristics? Almost every major city has that when you go downtown.

I think he is saying that Houston is overcome with these things more than most cities, mainly due to sprawl. Uncontrollable, ugly sprawl that breeds shopping centers that lease out spaces to home depot, target, JoAnn Fabrics, Chipotle, Panda Express, etc.
I think Houston has a very unique character. It IS what America is. It's diverse, corporate, and fat. It's also riddled with opportunities to make money, economic freedoms, and fantastic food. There is always something to do, even if you have to deal with some bullshite to do it.
I lived in Houston, and I didn't care for it one bit. BUT, we were never bored when we were there. Always something to do, even if it meant sitting in traffic was a prerequisite. It does have more character, IMO, than Dallas.

I've always liked Houston... cool stadiums, lots of Vietnamese people, warm weather. Definitely one of the 2 or 3 best cities in the South. Dallas isn't even in that conversation, IMO.

1 MM metro population is hard not have some identity and uniqueness.
Indianapolis and Albuquerque came to mind first. Although the latter is known as the “Detroit of the Southwest,” at least.
Baltimore and Newark are probably good candidates here.

Damn! That's well stated. And impossible to argue with. I love it here, but thats perfect.

What is Philadelphia’s identity outside of cheesesteak and Liberty Bell?
Never been to Philly, but supposedly parts of South Philly are like going in a time machine to NYC, with social clubs and Italian guys playing cards drinking espresso and shite out front smoking cigars lol. Not sure how accurate that is, just what I've heard, but would be funny to see. Reminds me of that It's always sunny episode.

Tons of cities like that though. I'd have a hard time describing someone from Fresno.

Shreveport is Biloxi without the beach.
They still wouldn't be very comparable.

Anyone who omits Jackson, MS from their list doesn’t understand what a “dull city” is.

1. Houston Texas
Massive city but no one knows anything about it other that O&G. So spread out it’s infuriating. Yes I’ve been there a lot
I live in Houston and I love it, but I also agree with this statement. Houston does nothing to market itself or make it stick-out. It is a working city; not a destination or vacation city. It has few defining characteristics other than its typically robust economy.
I am fine with that. It is nice to have a recession buffer. Still, for a city of its size, Houston deserves to top your list.

I don't know if Boosie, Kevin Gates, and JC qualify Baton Rouge to be known for rappers

Too small to matter.

Any list without Shreveport, Louisiana should be tossed out. It’s only identity is its lack of identity.
