It just goes to show that Hallman's claim to fame was a couple of upset wins, but no real coaching talent. The man clearly should never have been hired to coach at a major university. Kind of reminds me of the Ed Orgeron situation at Ole Piss.

Curly Hallman
You are all right, Curley was a completely over his head clown, trying to coach here, and the idiot Dean who hired him was just as bad! You got it Puttytat!
But Mr. Dean made up for it with the hiring of Coach Saban.

Hallman coached a Brett Farve lead football club.

exactly....Farve was Hallman's claim to fame....

and frankly, we were a doormat at the time...LSU was not seen as an ideal job in coaching circles....there was not a lot of financial support for the football team, so the option to just buy a coach really didn't exist either...

Then I thought, why did they hire this guy?

we hired him after Favre last year, no one knew Favre was that good, he was drafted in the 2nd round.

We also were only will to pay so much, so you get a 2nd rate coach.

You can't be serious. That hire was all Emmert.

If Dean had had his way, LSU would still be excited about Indy Bowl berths.

Believe at Southern Miss he defeated all of Alabama, Auburn, and Florida St in his tenure. Amazing how much of a clown he turned out.

don't give dean any credit for hiring saban.
If it hadn't been for Mark Emmert he would never have been here.

A few weeks earlier,USL was flagged for pass interference as time expired giving USM one more play and they scored a winning td with no time left.

The Favre days at USM were absolutely awesome. He had some big former LSU players who went out on a limb for him. He let them down. He brought in a weak staff, as at USM he did it all......THE MAN! Does not work that way at LSU. He was anti-social with adults and was not a good speaker at Alumni events. Like Archer, he was not ready for the media and PR work. He did not have the staff to pull it together. Just an Alabama country guy who grew up listening to LSU on the radio. It was a dream job for him. This job plays on the ego of many as we gave seen with Saban. He lost his wife and family, along with his job and respect.

You can't be serious ? I like Joe,but come on. Dean was making coffee while Emmert ,Saban and Sexton hammered out the details. Dean would have gone after Memphis State's line coach.

I have heard some good stories about Curly trying to give motiviational speaches to his teams and totally fcking it up. One involved him trying to repeat a story Skip had told about holding the rope or something. Curley supposedly got halfway through the talk, got confused, and finally just gave up after cursing about it for a minute.

Poor bastard couldn't win for losing. In what turned out to be his last season,1994,he spoke up here at the Birmingham Monday Morning Quarterback Club.Gotta set the stage.......

This was about 4 weeks after the infamous Jamie Howard fiasco in Auburn. The past weekend,Auburn had upset #1 Florida in Gainesville and Alabama and held off Tennessee in Knoxville.Place was packed ,500 or so,rocking and rolling ,fired up fans.A local tv guy put togethor a 4 or 5 minute video highlighting Auburn and Alabama's wins with his voice over -- on tape,he wasn't there.

If you recall,Florida led 33-29 with about 3 minutes left, but Spurrier couldn't sit on a lead and tried to get another score.Keep in mind Hallman is sitting right on stage, dead center while this is being shown behind the dais.

As Florida's QB Dean is being shown about to throw his fateful pick that led to Auburn's dramatic win,the sports guy booms out "and now its time for the CURLEY HALLMAN bonehead play of the week award!" The place just broke up in laughter. I mean,it was brutal.

I laughed for the humor of that, thank you for your wisdom and finally cried at the raw truth of it.

and isn't it interesting where arnsparger went after he left LSU, and who got hired there.....

this may be a conspiracy theory, but it is at least entertaining.

i disagree with that. we were hardly a doormat. we were a good football team that underachieved under archer.

now, once curley got there, we DID turn into a doormat for a few years.

Saw where Mike Bugar just took a job, I think it is at TxSt. I know others that turned the job down, as the assistants were like GAs and the pay was not good. They were ranked one of the worst Ds in the country. Hard job. We shall see what he can do. He once head butted one of the biggest contributors at an LSU party. Nearly knocked out the ole lineman.
