Lord have mercy. What ratio would justify it?
1.25% of the population dying is a huge number

I can assure you they aren’t. Not that it hasn’t affected them, but they’re more conservative and people of faith.
Outside of progressive white women, most people of faith have been a bit less fearful of the virus. This world isn’t the end for them.
My in-laws are farmers in West Texas and they said that they just didn’t care after May. They’d rather get it and die that spend their last years unable to see their grandchildren grow up or enjoy life.
Can’t disagree.
Amen
And god bless

You realize that normal mortality is in the range of 1%, right? Tell us, how do 2020 deaths from all causes stack up against 2019 and 2018?

1/8 th of 1% and we advocate destruction of community and livelihoods. What is the supossed reward for all of this involuntary "sacrifice"?

Look at that curve trending down. South Dakota's governor must have really clamped down to make that happen.

And, oddly enough, it peaked before any of the other Midwestern states with harsher restrictions, with all of the states peaking within 6 days of each other.
Amazing how all that works, eh? Everyone at about the same time stops conforming to the "restrictions" to allow a surge, and then at about the same time everyone falls back in line with the "restrictions" to drop the peak. Mitigation works! Hahahaha.

It’s not my responsibility to worry about someone else’s family
They are worried about me & my family
Maybe we should stop the anti fat shaming movement & promote the fact that being obese & unhealthy is what kills you
Maybe we should make people take responsibility for their health

I don't think many, but do the ends justify the means?
There are plenty of things we can legislate to preserve life, but the costs outweigh the benefit.

What's the point of preserving MAYBE 1-2 years of life, if they're "lucky," in "solitary confinement" in a nursing home? How is that more cruel than doing the best we can while living life as normal?

Once again it’s not up to you or anyone else to decide for another person
My Grandpa is 94 years old & has been ready to go for a few years now
He is very open about it & we have accepted it
He is currently in a nursing home where he cannot see his family or friends
He is more than willing to take his chances with a virus if it means getting to see his kids & grandkids
So many people are dying without their family by their side, so many are giving up because they are being kept from the only thing that keeps them going
Their is also a large amount of guilt the family carries for not being there for their loved one along with the issues from not being able to say goodbye in a lot of cases

You're right...so why aren't we letting them decide?

Because they (homemade cloth masks) either don't work at all or provide little effect, and it has been made into an actual crime (some places) and a social sin to not wear one. And our anointed national heroes and "experts" couldn't make up their fricking minds about them, and have been wrong about so much.

I'm not trying to take away from the hardship people are going through, but it's not so cut and dry when the decisions you make can impact others.
