I was young, but I could see it coming, and so I told her I couldn’t make it, I wanted to beat her to the punch.
I did it mostly to feel better better about myself.
That drove her crazy, and she came chasing after me. Which was not my intention, but I didn’t say no.
Ultimately I was the loser in all of this
because I was dating a true lunatic. We lasted a couple disastrous months.

Eh, I'd say it's the exact opposite. It's so easy to communicate today, people dont mind not committing until the last minute.
Back in the day plans were essential, otherwise you didn't know what people were doing. It's not like you could catch your buddy oh his home phone over the weekend to see what's up. That had to be known prior to the weekend.
Rapid communication has made people flakes.
