I know most people think he will be gone due to the contract he will get and us being in cap hell. But the smart play will be to franchise him. He would have had another sack this past game if not for the holding call against their big money tackle and he had another one against TB that was wiped out on def holding.

He’d be the league leader in sacks and very good chance he ends up with 14-15 this year. I’ve seen other teams franchise de’s with far less production and get at least 2nd rounds picks and some in later rounds. Wish we could keep him to continue the rotation with Davenport and Cambut with the cap shrinkage it’s doubtful. Hope Loomis plays it smart and we end up with more than a 3rd round comp pick in ‘22.

The franchise tag for DEs was $17.8 million this year. He’d be like our 5th highest cap hit.

You franchise him then trade him

Money won't work but it's a nice thought

If he walks, we more than likely get a comp pick for him

Yea but just a third. It should be easy to get at least a 2nd for him this draft, which we will need.

You literally can’t franchise him. With the cap headed to where it is you won’t see many if any teams use the tag. Hendrickson imo is gone and it’s not even debatable. Would you be willing to sign hendrickson and lose Lattimore or Ram? I wouldn’t. Not with Davenport on the up and coming.

The Saints are going to have to make a tough call and decide if they see Hendrickson or Davenport as the starter going forward. If it’s Davenport then they will let Hendrickson walk but if they view him as the starter they try to sign him and let Davenport walk at the end of his rookie deal not picking up his 5th year option. The good news is I don’t see Hendrickson breaking the bank for an Olivier Vernon type deal but closer to what Dante Fowler got. If they see him as the starter they can offer him 4 years in the $40-$50 million range and I would bet that gets it done.

Hendrickson isn’t going to cost as much as people think, and there will be multiple ways to slash salary. If Brees is done we may be looking at a new era of saints football, with some other popular high priced players getting shipped out with him

He is splitting time with Davenport. Leading the league in sacks. How many more sacks would he have if full time starter. Pay the man! He is a productive player.

This...I think Sean / Mickey will usr this as a pivot to move the team in some new directions while staying competitive.

Hint- Jeff Ireland will be busy busy over next 2-3 years

You have to create about 16M in cap space to make that happen. Since we are not on the books for Kwon’s bonus, restructure him and turn future salary into signing bonus and add a year.

Kamara is another really easy contract to flip into contract dollars, as is CGM.

The money is there and letting Trey walk without adequate compensation is not an option.

Good thing is, if they were to think this you actually have a good shot at flipping Davenport for a top draft pick since he'll only count $2.3M against the cap next season in a trade ($4.4M if he stays with the Saints).

As a comparison, Derek Barnett was the 14th overall pick in 2017 and is playing on a 5th year option this year. His cap number this year is $10M. For those that don't know, Davenport was the 14th overall in 2018; so this would be a good baseline to know what his 5th year option would look like.

Hendrickson has been behind the scenes working hard as hell to have this breakout season. We’ve been waiting a long time for a consistent pass rush from BOTH DE spots and you think we’re gonna get rid of him. He’s slimmed down since drafting him and now he’s a beast. If Cam and Davenport lost weight they’d probably do the same. With that being said no way we let him go.

This. Crazy the amount of meh Hendrickson gets on here while being statistically a top tier NFL pass rusher.

You want to know why? Cause he’s been in the league 4 years. Hasn’t stayed healthy at all and when healthy he didn’t look great. Playing great this year but some of you are acting like he’s been playing like this for years. A lot of players have breakout seasons during a contract year and never reach that ceiling again. So yes, most are “meh” on him. Cause they’ve watched his “meh” play 3 of the last 4 years.

Neither of you seem to get it. With what money are they going to give him? The Saints will have to get rid of some players and extend guys like Lattimore snd Ram to even get under the cap. But somehow they’re gonna find 10 mill to add him and still fit under the cap? Doubtful. He will be walking
