Trendon Watford was assessed a technical foul apparently for taunting after scoring a basket yesterday. The two free points for St. Louis which resulted from the technical proved crucial in the three point loss. The margin affected late game strategy and loomed large in establishing the margin. LSU had only one chance to tie in a late possession and a turnover killed that opportunity.

This should be a teaching moment for Wade to stop the ridiculous trash talk and just play the game. It certainly gives the message more gravitas than using Javonte Smart's technical the previous game which was won handily.

There were some questionable calls yesterday. Not only did the get the free throws but I believe they scored so it was like a 4 pt swing

Sports are so fricking lame now what is the point of this? Assessing a technical for talking shite? I genuinely wonder who’s putting these soft arse losers in charge of major college sports and ruining the fun (intentionally from what I can tell)

This sometimes leads to violence and more aggressive actions by the players. Its senseless and is totally unnecessary. Let your game speak for you.

If it leads to violence or “aggressive action” then punish that behavior. Just talking shite should be allowed. If you want to be a “my game talks for me” guy, that’s great, if you want to be fiery and talk a little shite, that’s fine too. Sports are better when there is some passion, if everyone was like Larry Fitzgerald it would be more boring.

How often? Once out of every 1,000-10,000 instances? It’s not unnecessary, it’s entertaining and if that hurts your feelings then turn the TV off and go birdwatching. There was nothing better than watching Bird, Jordan, Shaq, Kobe, etc. talk shite on the court back in the day and that’s a fact

Sure wish Pete Rose, Dick Butkus, Joe Montana, Jim Brown, Bill Russel, Oscar Robertson and Jerry West, Kareem Abdul Jabbar and John Havliceket al had played with more passion and run their mouths. I am sure it would have made their sports better.

What in the actual frick? You could not be more out of touch with society

Watford played like a man possessed yesterday. Dude brought it from the get go and let everybody know. As a coach, in film session you bring it up, but you don't EVER tell your best player to stop being aggressive. Watford looked asleep on Thursday, then Saturday from the jump wanted to take over. He keeps playing like that LSU goes very far this season

It’s good to have a balance. Guys like you named are great for their respective sports, but a guy like Paul Pierce or Floyd Mayweather are good for their sports as well.

Smart had one first game. Talked trash just because he hit a 3 point shot. And early in the first half! WTF?!

He did bring it, but he also made a bone headed play with the technical. He needs to be leader. What does it say about this team when in the first two games, the two supposed leaders both had technicals called on them!!!

Watford played 36 minutes and got one...one...I repeat one rebound... we will win zero SEC road games if he gets one rebound.. he is a very good offensive player. We lost because we got dominated on the boards and we have a below, average defense. Watford needs to average 6 or 7 and occasionally get 10 rebounds.

Everyone's play, good and bad contributed to the outcome. Coaches should praise good play and criticize mistakes. No matter how they got there otherwise getting an unnecessary technical and giving the opponent two points should be addressed and presented in the context of its effect on the game. It was 2/3 of the margin of defeat and affected decisions down the stretch.

Whether they rebounded well or didn't play good 3 point defense is a factor as was their own good shooting and few turnovers. Again, no matter how they eventually got there giving the opponent two cheap points in a close loss had a profound effect.

The problem is your myopic view of the world which is currently very fricked up and values the wrong things. I will guess you are under 30. My perspective is over several cultural changes and era. While none of them were perfect when it came to sports your achievement on the court and field were what counted. Now we seem to be driven by personalities and egos. You think allowing Lebron to put together super teams is good for the game? The chippiness now resemble the wrestling circuit and only simple minds think its great.

The 3 point foul by Smart was the dagger.
