This means they are expecting Zion to develop his offensive game. Some people didn’t like the fit. Signing him to an extension puts faith in Zion’s shot. Also shows that the Pels know it’s gonna take Jaxson some years. A two year deal means in three years, maybe Jaxson becomes the starter.

By the time Jaxson becomes starter quality, he’ll be sent in the disgruntled star trade anyways

I like Adams. I like the trade. I like the extension.
So, if Adams finishes out this contract, the guy you picked 8th overall is gonna spend his first four seasons on the bench.
It was a bad pick. They know it was a bad pick.

FA center deals this off-season
Meyers Leonard 2/20
Harrell 2/19
Ibaka 2/19
Thompson 2/19
Favors 3/27
Poetl 3/27
Plumlee 3/25
Baynes 2/14
I was liking it until this. Adams is undoubtably better than all of those guys but idk if he’s paying him twice as much better.

Yup got that after. Still Adams is CLEARLY better than all of them. Imo he's easily a top 10 center.
So how does his $17.5 mil compare to the other top 10 centers and/or 10 highest paid centers?

I'm getting used to the idea of having a badass down low with some young high-energy guys sprinkled throughout the roster.
Reminds me of having Tyson/David West - some fricking grit.
I'm ready to be the team that people circle on their calendar as a miserable game, win or lose.

This really isn’t too bad for a top 5 defensive C in the NBA who is still under 30 and a great locker room guy. He will help give the young kids some grit. He will give you 12 & 10 every night with great defense and most importantly he will look like he gives a shite, something Favors did not do at times last year. He was just biding his time to get back to Utah the second he got traded.

Adams had no obligations to extend. He would likely have gotten more overall in the open market. He must really liked the fit.
The open market this year says the going rate is $9-$10M per year. Even if Adams is perceived as being better, you’d think $12-$13M per for Adams tops
It’s not the end of the world but he definitely had the upper hand in negotiations with us seeing as we gave up a nice package for a guy with a year left on his deal. He would not top $17.5M on the open market if this year is any indication

None of these guys are really starters imo. 17 million for a starter isn’t bad, especially how the salary will continue to grow. It’s not going to poison us at all compared to Asik/Hill.

Need to factor in the small market tax clubs like us always have to pay

But this year isn’t the indication. Only 3 or 4 teams had cap space and none of them really needed a center, So most of the centers this year signed for the MLE. Next year I bet several sign for 15+ million. I’d have liked the deal to be a little less but this is not some huge overpay just a slight one to gain certainty that he won’t walk.

I might be completely wrong, but given how quickly after the trade he extended, I'd imagine that the extension was discussed pre-trade.

Funny that some people in the Adams thread defending the deal thought there would be a ‘market correction’ for centers and we would resign him for only 12-15 a year and if not would let him walk lol. Now it’s a ‘great’ deal
I told y’all he would get 17-20 a year.

And after next year and seeing the contracts thrown out this year in a ‘bad’ fa market where teams didn’t have much space supposedly. I suspect Adam’s will get anywhere between 17- 20 a year next year.

The link even says as part of the trade, as if this was part of why we even made it.

I think people overlook the fact that he’s one of the few centers in the league that can give you 30+mpg. While I don’t know if they are going to play him that much here, I think having a guy who can play big minutes is nice to have.

Well considering some people thought he would get 12, big difference between that and 17.5....
Guess you have a short memory and forgot how Asik fell apart and how hard he was to trade making half that amount. And his deal was franchise altering....
