like Adams. I like the trade. I like the extension.

So, if Adams finishes out this contract, the guy you picked 8th overall is gonna spend his first four seasons on the bench.

It was a bad pick. They know it was a bad pick.

Is this where everyone pretends that they knew Herro was a stud.

Because given that we are all just assuming no one improves after a season, he’s the only player picked after that that’s enough of a needle mover to give a frick.

“8th overall” doesn’t mean shite without context.

You can make an argument for Reddish at 8, but not Herro without being a hindsight her(r)o

Definitely didn’t think an extension was in the works, and it’s a bit more than I would like, but I like that it’s only 3 total years.

Well now we know what was holding the trade up. We likely don't go through with the trade without the extension.

Great move by Griff. Adams cap hit drops by 12.5 million next year, likely right around the same amount Hart will be extended for.

For those complaining, Adams is/will be a good contract at 17.5 per. Rudy Gobert is on the verge of signing a full 5 year max with Utah, Bam will likely get a full 5 year max with Miami, Jokic is on a full max. Embiid is maxed.

I don't think they're worth twice as much as Adams. Next season when Drummond signs we will know if we overpaid or underpaid. Drummond gets 15+ we know we underpaid.

Little rich but not totally obscene as you try & construct a blind deal for someone currently making $27mil.

Figure there is a small premium involved so the Pels don’t have to negotiate against bigger markets clout & $$$ on the open market. So add $4-5$ mil. Knowing they struggle to attract top free agents

Is it though?

17.5 million will have him as the 9th highest paid center next year, 400k higher than Clint Capella.

That's before extensions for Gobert, Drummond and others.

By next year, he will be in the 10-15th range as far as center pay.

There's a very good chance we underpaid if he keeps his level of play up.

The market has changed tho, as evidenced by the deals signed this year.

Adams was a $27mil guy a few years ago. He’s still in his prime. He’s not markedly better or worse than that, & is now a $17.5mil player

I’m looking at 6-7 guys in that top 15 that are taking huge pay cuts if they were to sign a new deal tomorrow

I don’t think it’s a bad deal, & certainly much easier to understand the Pels angle on the trade

There were only 4 teams with cap this offseason

ETA: to put it in perspective only 4 players changed teams and got paid more than the MLE. Hayward, Gallinari, Grant, and Wood.

There was no cap space available this year, the deals signed were for MLE level because that's all teams could sign players for. You cannot judge based off this year for that simple reason.

Where do y’all get this shite from? They came into the league the same year.

Adams has played almost 16,000 minutes including the playoffs.

Giannis played almost 19,000.

The contract values for Steven Adams’ extension with the New Orleans Pelicans are:

2021-22: $17,073,171
2022-23: $17,926,829

Adams has a new 7.5% trade bonus on the extension. He previously had a 7.5% trade bonus, but is expired upon his trade from the Thunder to the Pelicans.

His salary next year is lower than Clint Capella's.

I am very happy to have Adams. I think he brings so much more than just numbers to this team.

The market this year is partially based on the static cap, the few teams that had cap space, and the amount of teams trying to preserve cap space for next year.

Next year the cap presumably goes up, and far more teams actually have cap space and will be looking to spend after striking out on Giannis.

It’s a small overpay. I thought he’d get 15ish. It’s fine to pay more slightly to get the deal done now.

Yeah, that’s pretty palatable in a vacuum.

Adams is a dog too, he will help Zion alot on Defence. Hopefully keep Zion from having to work to hard near the basket and saving some for the offensive end of the court.

Allows Jaxson to develope. His salary went down & he replaces Derrick "Fricking" Favors. Sounds like we are headed in the right direction.

Clank! Clank!

Can we get him in the trade too? I’d watch those videos during the season.

Edit: “who’s this Youngblood trying to cook Steven? You don’t have enough ingredients! Clank clank!

I think we had to pay a bit of a premium because the extension can only be 2 years. It’s a bit risky for Adams, because he’s delaying going on the open market for 2 more years. If he would’ve been a free agent next offseason it’s almost a guarantee that he would’ve signed for more than 35 mil guaranteed.
