quote:There were discussions before the election; before the appointment of the most recent Supreme Court Justice, about expanding the total number of Justices. This is what was referred to as "packing the Court". Several in Congress openly called for it. So, you go from 9 to 11 or 13, or something along those lines, and appoint the ones you want so they vote the way you want.
If he tries it, and I fully expect he will, it will be decided (or likely thrown out) in the Supreme Court but not before historic lopsided blowout losses for the democrats in 2022.
There's no current law forbidding that.

There's no way they can logistically institute gun grabs in two years
quote:You can believe that if you want, and you can hope/pray you're right.
and no, law enforcement is not going to just do as they're told and kick in citizens doors looking for legally owned forearms.
LEO's by nature of the job, tend not to care about other people's plights. Otherwise, think of all the sob stories that get told when you're getting a ticket... you usually get that ticket anyway. Those guys in Blue need to keep their jobs and income.
If you make something a felony, they're obligated to treat it as such. If you're suspected of running a meth lab or selling stolen goods, they have every right to come search your home and property once they get a warrant. There have been many raids for illegal firearms over the years.
"Suspicion"... that gets interesting. Go do an internet search of, say, Bobcat rentals, and see how many ads you get on that later. That's just the private companies, you know the Fed gov can and does track shite too. People posting here and other forums talking about it, people looking at Gunbroker or Buds, people ordering from SGammo or Targetsportsusa. Let's face it, most of us here have already been tagged.

I work with a bunch of LEO's , sheriff deputies, SPD, State Troopers, and none of them are even thinking about enforcement of such mandate. If you think otherwise then try to explain why Connecticut's version of these laws saw minimal compliance and zero LEO enforcement. If a bright blue state can't pull it off, forget about the red ones.

If it becomes a national, federal law, then things get iffy in a big hurry. We're not talking local or state, we're talking national.
If you combine owning federal contraband, and going on social media to make actively defiant and disobedient statements against the standing federal government, I suspect the pressure can and will be ratcheted up.
We live in a nation where you may have to flash an id to buy a can of Krylon spraypaint, and that's tolerated. If you don't think there would be efforts to enforce a law and that people (in general) would go along with it, then... good.
Best case scenario would be that you get left alone, but in return you better not display or use them publicly.

They will require a federal gun id card to buy ammo and to get the card you will have to declare your guns so the proper caliber will be allowed on your profile then the tax will roll in I hope you stocked up

Remember how they added the "sin tax" to tobacco? You do that to ammo, and it serves several purposes-
1st, it makes ammo that much more expensive and a hassle to get.
2nd, and the sticking point: it adds to the tax revenue. The gov budget is going to be squeezed, and adding taxes is a surefire way to add revenue.

There is no limit to what a determined anti-gun administration might try. It won’t be cops knocking down doors and seizing guns. It’ll be incremental and designed to squeeze gun owners and punish sellers/manufacturers.
A sin tax on ammo.
Outlawing online sales of guns and ammo.
Stamp tax on certain existing guns.
Outlawing private sales.
Requiring ranges to validate stamps.
Requiring firearm disclosures on tax filings.
Opening gun manufacturers to civil liability when a gun is used in a crime.
It’s easy to say “I lost my guns in a boat accident” but I’m not comfortable being a felon and having to hide my guns. If I can’t get ammo or can’t go to the range then what’s the point?
And don’t think they’ll stop at ARs. Like someone else said, they’ll go after anything beyond a BB gun.

I don’t put my faith in SCOTUS. And the Dems are far more determined than they were in 1994. They are farther left than moderate Dems understand. “Gun grabs” are messy and unconstitutional. But incremental “gun restrictions” are easy. There are already plenty restrictions in place. They’ll add more and more. A de facto ban without being called such.

Sadest moment if this election season for me...
My nephew (32 age) pointed out on FB that he voted biden and started berating trump supporters. Iraq vet, kind of a deer hunter etc. ***Huge AR guy*** he's already told me he doesn't really follow politics
I point out that biden would like to ban ARs. Even link him the video on Biden's website that reads "Biden will ban ARs"
His response..."oops. Well shite"
Don't vote if you don't know what you're voting for people.

Sadly, I think the best we can hope for is a grandfather clause. I have seen the number tossed around a few times stating 16 million ARs in the US, give or take; and approx 400 million privately owned firearms of all types. That's a lot of potentially VERY unhappy people (although it didn't seem to make a difference in this election).
Ammo becomes a viable issue... for most of what I own, online is just a cheaper option (and perhaps better choice of brand).
But I do have at least one that's a specialty/boutique round. I suppose I could reload (which I'm now considering), but the issue of components remains as big as the issue of loaded ammo.

"'Member when Obama came and took errybodys' guns? I remember.
Never forget! We cannot go through that again!"
I remember when his bullshite healthcare plan made me pay triple on my insurance.

You act like LEO’s taking guns from citizens is like giving speeding tickets. I wouldn’t be a cop for any amount of money if they have to be gun grabbers . The idea of taking guns of people is bad idea. Pissing off hundreds people with major fire arms is not a smart idea . Especially when they drive their cop cars home .

Were any of those issues more important to him, than continuing to own and enjoy his AR's?
I have a few issues I don't stray from. I don't care if it's R, I or D by the name, and I don't care about personality, ethnicity or gender. Anti-gun, that's a disqualifying stance. It's something I care about, and I will always choose the less anti-gun person in a race.

I’m fairly certain 70% of Congress didn’t support it. We certainly know that they didn’t know what was in the ACA bill because Pelosi said the Bill had to passed so we could find out what was in it.
The fact that this lady has won re-election after making that statement is mind blowing to me.

quote:Bingo - we all saw this during the early COVID lockdown days. LEOs saying "I'm just following orders" as they are arresting a mother for taking her child to the park. Anyone who says LEOs would be "on our side" is delusional
Don’t be fooled, when given the ability to wield power over people your local Leo’s will be more than happy to bash your skull in for those 30 round mags that “were lost in a boating accident.”

But again, blunt gun-grabbing is not the threat. The threat is taxation and regulation and clamping down on manufacturers and dealers.

Are people jumping your case? Yeah, they are.
But this is one of those times where it's probably warranted.
Saying "I didn't know anything about it" isn't an excuse, when the info is out there in plain sight.
I am in the thread trying to find out the specifics of the issue. I was simply at work and didn't have time to look up every detail right then. Several people had obviously read about it and I was trying to find out where they read about it. I don't think jumping my case for trying to learn more is warranted.

Which is tantamount to war. You take away the means for people to protect themselves, you essentially take away their freedom. We are currently in a cold civil war and I'm not sure what will happen if those things start to be put in place. Already there are too many incremental restrictions in place all over the country that is subverting our rights in the name of safety. We will either continue to roll over and continue to take it, or people will rise up to stop it, whether by voice or force.
