I have known this guy 30 years and he is a great person. Morally sound. A Sheriffs deputy in the Seattle area. Very conservative politically, so if you think this sounds odd dont blame this on him being liberal.

Last night he texted me to say he is going to start putting his dog in one of those pet hotels two days a week because he feels the dog is lonely and that it sleeps too much.

According to him, his dogs sleeps all day when he is at work which bothers him. Keep in mind my buddy only works 40 hours a week so its not like he is gone for extended hours. I will also add that on my buddies days off his time is devoted to his dog by going hiking, dog parks and so on.

I mentioned the financial cost is going to add up and his response was that he just loves his dog so much that he cant help it. I said I would think him moving his dog back and forth between home and pet hotel would cause the dog anxiety and that I would think his dog would just prefer to stay home because that is his comfort zone. His response is that his dog loves to play with other dogs and that dogs are pack animals by nature. At this point, I stopped texting because I could tell there was no reasoning with him.

I get loving your pets and wanting to give them the best life, but isnt he going off the deep end here? Am I the one who is wrong for not understanding where my buddy is coming from?

Please read the 80s thread where everyone who grew up during that time is saying how great it was. We forgot to include dogs were dogs and no one brought a dog to a doggie spa, hotel,or daycare!

I know people with disposable income that do this type thing.

I believe it makes them feel better about themselves that they are aren't just leaving the dog at home all day. Maybe it is projection or something.

Apparently it is a pretty booming business if someone was wanting to get into it.

When I was a kid we had a dog that used to roam the neighborhood during the day while we were all at school/work.

We found out he was living a double life and had a whole 2nd family of kids that hung out with him during the day, and called him Sam. ( not his name ). He was always waiting for us when we got off the bus at 4pm though.

Your "buddy" needs a girlfriend and get a load off his mind. This dog obsession these days is pathetic.

Tell your buddy that it looks suspicious. Doggie hotels are for people with too much money.

How did a sheriffs deputy come up with too much money.

So he wants his dog to get exercise and socialize a couple days per week instead of sleeping around the house?

That’s fine.

I thought you were about to list some buggery.

All dogs do this

He just needs to walk the dog two to three miles per day, be good for both of them.

What if he wanted to spend the same amount of money on playing golf, fishing or hunting? Would you try to talk him out of it?

His dog is his hobby.

unless he is being cruel to him, beating him etc, is what he does with his dog really any of your damn business? add to it starting a thread here about it. Your firend must not read TD, doubt you would post this thread if there was a chance he would see it. Him not reading tc does add to your friend being a loser though.

The status of dogs in American society has risen more in my lifetime than that of many minority groups.

When I was a kid, one weird girl would take her poodle in the car. Everyone in town talked about how nuts that was. ("A dog. Inside the damn car!") And if a hunting dog wasn't getting the job done, he might RIP in the woods after that trip.

Now people treat their dogs like children, or better. The NAACP should study what the dogs did to attain such status so quickly and try to emulate it.

He should just get a 2nd dog so it has companionship.

Your course of action is obvious

Move to Seattle and open up a pet hotel with your gentleman lover

Congrats on your future happiness together

Having a pet dog that’s not a working dog for cattle or something is literally the dumbest thing on this planet. Everything like pet hotels is just inexplicable.
