UW to remove racist rock
quote:
UW-Madison is moving forward on a plan to remove a boulder from Observatory Hill after calls from students of color who see the rock as a painful reminder of the history of racism on campus.
The 70-ton boulder is officially known as Chamberlin Rock in honor of Thomas Crowder Chamberlin, a geologist and former university president. But the rock was referred to at least once after it was dug out of the hill as a “n***erhead,” a commonly used expression in the 1920s to describe any large dark rock.

This will be the softest generation in US history. Absolutely pathetic.

Good racism has gotten out of control in rock society. Just because they’re inanimate doesn’t mean their hate should be acceptable

After the rock is removed, the Black Student Union’s focus will shift to generating ideas for how students of color can reclaim the space, such as installing a piece of art, McWhorter said.

And in related news, Planter's decides to stop selling Brazil Nuts. And those whistling chasers they sell at fireworks stands? Those are gone now too.

Who among us can honestly say they’ve never called someone a n*****head?

We didn't land on n***erhead rock, n***erhead rock landed on us!

If there was actually real social injustice or racist issues going on, nobody would have time to debate racist rocks

I have two water oaks in my front yard that I have heard others refer to as Nword oaks before. I think someone should come remove those racist arse trees.

There was a delicious candy we used to eat as children that had a very similar name...I wonder if it will be cancelled as well???

So if we label things with offensive names people will work to get rid of them? This has potential.

Tell that small handful of students to remove it themselves if they don’t like it

Who the hell even researches this stuff? Like if they were still calling that rock by that slur TODAY I'd see the issue, but unfortunately that was a term back in the day.
