Dumas (Greenwood) will be no more...

According to the BREC Greenwood Park / BR Zoo Master Plan, there won't be an 18 hole course in Baker once complete. So either Webb, City Park or Beaver Creek is going to take the load. That is going to suck for people who live in the area and are use to playing Dumas and are going to have to drive farther and most likely, pay more.

Dumas was the first course that I played and then I played a nine hole course in Ethel with my Dad and uncle.

Beaver Creek is going to be overrun.

That is what I'm worried about to because I play Dumas occasionally and it is the slowest play ever.

Dumas was fun. It was on our golf circuit. Webb, City, LSU and Dumas.

I hope BREC puts some extra funding towards maintenance and improvements on its other golf facilities. Money that would have been spent at Dumas.

Hire the guy that redesigned Audubon to redo Clark. Make a great 9 holes.

How about building a driving range and practice green at Independence Park to serve mid Parish golfers since there’s no room for one at Webb????
I bet it would pay for itself.

That sounds incredibly miserable

That's a really good idea.

God BR and Louisiana in general fricking sucks for golf. Sometimes wish I lived in Florida or anywhere with decent golf

The rendering in this thread is not up to date. The new course will have four new holes located roughly where Dumas 15,16 and 17 are currently located. Renovations include new irrigation, maintenance facility upgrades, extensive drainage and shaping upgrades, etc. The biggest difference will be that all nine of the greens at Clark will be about the size of 5/7 at Beaver Creek (10,000 square feet)... big enough to support two hole locations per green. The grass on the greens will be Tifeagle... the same turf as Beaver Creek. All of the green and bunker surrounds will be zoysia. Should be a very interesting nine holes.

It can get pricy, especially this time of year, but we play all-year-round. It's the biggest perk of living here. Hey, there has to be some silver lining living in Gayturd land.

Yeah, no way people in that area are driving to City Park, Webb or LSU over this course.

It’s amazing how many golf courses have closed over the years in the metro area:
Gonzales County Club
Briarwood
Shenandoah
Sherwood Forest
The Island
Dumas
Riverdale
Half of The Lakes at Pelican Point
There might be more. This is just off the top of my head.

What was the course on Millerville called?

Fairwood? I think that was it's name.
Where was Riverdale?

Westside
Howell Park
It really isn't that surprising when you really think about it.
Way too many courses were built.
A large portion of golf is subsidized in some way. And therefore screws up the economics. All of BREC and LSU. Private courses cannot compete with that and never will be able to.
Then, you have the fact that we are Sportsmen's Paradise. People love to hunt and fish too.
The weather is terrible. We have brutal random winter storms, we have hurricanes, we have floods, we have droughts, we have heatwaves. You name it and we have it. We have all four seasons in single days sometimes for weeks.
There is LSU sports. On many days everyone is either at the games and/or glued to TVs.
Lastly and most importantly, we have worsening demographics in BR (and LA). White Collar jobs that historically play a lot more golf have left here in a hurry. The entire Parish of EBR is basically controlled by DSLD, DR Horton, Level Homes etc. DSLD was BR Business Report's Company of the Year for Christ's sake. There is no money here for golf.
